B. J. started his career as lead singer for the Triumphs, a six-piece rock 'n roll band. In 1965, B. J. recorded the Hank Williams song, "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" for his father on a rock 'n roll album. The single went to number four on the pop charts and sold more than a million copies (platinum). This launched the solo career for B. J. Thomas.
