Mission Statement

The Missaukee Humane Society’s mission is to benefit animals by providing education, guidance and shelter as needed in order to support a safe, healthy and nurturing environment for animals. Our commitment is to serve as a partner in creating and sustaining this environment for animals both in the shelter as well as in the community.

Goals for the Animal

Our goal is that each animal lives in a healthy and safe home that is most capable of meeting that animal’s needs. We will provide shelter for each animal in our care until such a home is found. We will provide ongoing support as needed throughout their lifetime.

Goals for the Community

Our services are designed toward helping the community feel confident in making an informed decision regarding their choices. When they choose to relinquish their animal, we help them successfully cope with their feeling of loss by providing assurance that their animal will be safe until there is an opportunity for the animal to be placed in a new home. We will assist the community in achieving the goal of a happy, healthy and rewarding relationship with their pet in order to avoid having to relinquish their pet. We will provide them with referrals for education, veterinary help and support services as needed.

Goals for the Adoptive Owner

We assist the adoptive owner in preparing for the joy and responsibility of adopting an animal by providing education and guidance on successfully meeting the challenges that are a natural part of the adoption process as they arise throughout the animal’s life.

About The Missaukee Humane Society

In 1989, Ernest LeDoulx chose to convert a portion of his property to the non-profit caring of dogs and cats. This did not come easy, as he relied on substantial assistance from friends, relatives, and community-oriented people possessing various skills. Thus, this shelter was built.

Despite numerous setbacks, the Missaukee Humane Society continues to operate without federal, state, county, or township funding. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Without the donations of caring people such as yourself, we would cease to exist.

Our local community and surrounding Michigan communities realize we sincerely care about all animals. We are a no-kill facility, thus the welfare of any animal brought to our care is guaranteed. We provide the best possible care to all animals. All employees and volunteers provide much needed love and attention to all animals entering our door

More about MHS

Our building and kennel facilities were built with local contributions of funds, materials, and labor. Daily operations are supported entirely from financial contributions and donations of supplies from individuals and businesses who support the concept of compassionate shelter (animal orphanage) for companion animals.

Our staff is highly caring and wholeheartedly devoted to the welfare of all of our animals. When animals are brought into our care they are given a once-over examination, shots, worming, and if medical attention is needed, the animal is transported to a veterinarian's office. Our animals are given love and individual attention from all of our staff and volunteers.
