ou are the Parent. It's your job to provide the limits your child needs and-though he doesn't realize it-wants. To feel the world is safe, he needs to know that mom and dad are in control. You not only have the right, you have the responsibility to take charge and set limits on misbehavior and reward successes.

This course will teach you how to react to discipline problems in a calm, consistent, and effective manner, how to prevent "bad" behavior from occurring and what to do when it does occur. You will learn new approaches to your child's behavior, practice them in class and then at home for a new confident and effective style of parenting.

The parenting course consists of four 1 1/2 hour sessions. Handouts and printed material will be given to the participants. There will be homework at the end of each class.

Class 1 - The principles and major concepts of parent training will be introduced. You will learn how to praise and give positive attention to the child's good behaviors. You will also learn how to spot behaviors you don't like and those you find intolerable.

Class 2 - You will learn how to ignore and when to ignore. You will also learn the first and simplest limit setting tool, the command, when dealing with the difficult or noncomplying child. A Better Behavior Chart will inspire your child's cooperation and a new routine will replace the old chaos.

Class 3 - A video will be shown in class. Parents will practice analyzing the child's behavior and their responses.

Class 4 - Parents will learn how to solve problems with a family meeting. We will review Time-out, a simple, portable, ever-ready consequence and learn how to deal with behavior problems in public places.
