BALLET MINK COLBERT, inc, founded in New York City in 1970, has an ongoing history of eclectic ballets with an unusual flair. BALLET MINK COLBERT, inc is known for an exciting synthesis of styles, using traditional ballet and unconventional surprises. The repertoire features both theatrical, site specific and videodance works which have been performed in proscenium theatres, parks, city streets and maximum security prisons. BALLET MINK COLBERT, inc has performed thoughout the United States, in Denmark, Russia and Scotland.
Veteran dancer and choreographer Margot Mink Colbert has choreographed over sixty original ballets in styles ranging from neo-classic to post-modern. Her career spans the professional, independent and academic milieus. Her work is described as "the art of moving gracefully on the borderline between modern dance, postmodern dance and ballet" (Terpsicore #3, August 1998). The choreography encompasses works drawn from literature (Golem, Le Petit Prince), original scenarios (Bridal Wave, Timeline, L'Hotel du Chevre, Arrival, Domestic Flight), abstract and neoclassical works (Today..., Convex Journey, Cityscape, On A Ribbon of Sound, Rice In My Socks) and collaborations with theatre, opera and music ensembles. In 2000 Mink Colbert choreographed Three Penny Opera, produced at UNLV in Las Vegas and Mr. Shakespeare, Mr. Porter, produced by the Medicine Show Theatre Ensemble off-Broadway in New York.
Mink Colbert, a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music, Dance Division, in New York City, has studied with some of the greatest names in American classical ballet and contemporary dance as well as with Bournonville teachers in Denmark. She began training as a child in ballet with Thalia Mara and attended New York High School of Performing Arts. Her ballet training includes extensive work with Antony Tudor, Alfredo Corvino and in Cecchetti with Margaret Craske. Her modern dance training is with Martha Graham and Jose Limon in composition with Louis Horst, Antony Tudor, Merce Cunningham and Lucia D'Lugocewski. She is currently a tenured Professor of Dance, Director of the Ballet Program as well as Assistant Chairperson at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, College of Fine Arts, Department of Dance.

ERNESTA CORVINO studied ballet with Margaret Craske, Antony Tudor, Alfredo Corvino and Andra Corvino. At the age of 14 she joined the Maryland Ballet as soloist then went on to dance with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet and Radio City Music Hall Ballet Company. She toured the U.S. with the American Chamber Ballet and went to Asia with the Opera Theatre of New York. She has also performed with Ruby Shang, Bill Badolato, Roberto Cartagena and ethnic dance specialist, Matteo. In 1991 she became a member of the New York Baroque Dance Company appearing in New York City, the Carmel Bach Festival , The Kennedy Center and in Europe. Ms. Corvino has also performed as a baroque soloist with Apollo's Banquet.
In 1981 she formed her own company, ERNESTA CORVINO'S DANCE CIRCLE COMPANY, which appeared annually at the Riverside Dance Festival in New York City from 1982-87. The company has also performed at Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors, the Downtown Dance Festival, the Meet-the-Artist Series at Lincoln Center, USDAN Center, Randolph-Macon Womans College, the Nikolais/Louis ChoreoSpace and Marymount Manhattan Theatre. Ms. Corvino has choreographed over twenty pieces for the company ranging from a Charlie Chaplin two-reeler to a ballet about the Kentucky Derby. Well-known for her wry treatment of popular culture in ballets such as the critically acclaimed Holmes, Sweet Holmes, Ms. Corvino is equally adept at crafting works of pathos and tragedy. Her recently created The Early Morning Hours of the Hard Moon is a tender and heroic treatment of one man's struggle with AIDS and of Somnus, Jennie Schulman of Backstage wrote, "This is one of the most novel utilizations of the Ravel score ever conceived."
From 1968 to 1993 she was teacher and co-director of her own school, DANCE CIRCLE in New York City. Her teaching credits also include the Juilliard School, the Inner-City Ensemble, the Governor's School of New Jersey, Randolph-Macon Womans College, the Tappan Zee Dance Group, SUNY/ Purchase, and Stephens College (all for whom she has choreographed), as well as Sarah Lawrence College, SUNY/Brockport, Long Island University, STEPS ON BROADWAY, Danspace of Oakland, CA. and the Jose Limon Dance Company.
Ms. Corvino frequently teaches, choreographs and performs as Artist-in-Residence at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Recently she has appeared at the Kaye Playhouse in New York City and The Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in From The Horse's Mouth, a live dance documentary. She currently teaches open classes at the Lawrence A. Wien Center for Dance and Theatre in New York City, performs in the U.S. and Denmark with BALLET MINK COLBERT and conducts workshops throughout Europe.

CATHERINE GREEN was a high school ballet major at North Carolina School of the Arts and holds a B.F.A. in Dance from SUNY/Purchase. She has performed with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Ballet Met, Ernesta Corvino's Dance Circle Company, Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, Marjie Citron and Dancers and Mary Seidman and Dancers. Ms. Green has been appearing with BALLET MINK COLBERT since 1999 and in 2002 created the role of Alice in Dance Back the Cat.
She holds a Masters Degree in Dance Education from New York University and is currently a ballet instructor at Hunter College. Her teaching and choreography credits also include The Governor's School of New Jersey as well as Perry-Mansfield among others.

DOLLY KELEPECZ danced with Los Angeles and Houston Ballets, Nevada Dance Theatre and the Zurich Opera Ballet before joining the famed Lido Show at the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas.? She is the founder and owner of numerous Pilates studios in NV and also trains and certifies Pilates trainers.? She has appeared with BALLET MINK COLBERT for many years and is also currently on the faculty of the Dance Department at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

TAMARA LOHRENZ, born in Canada, is a former principal dancer with the Santa Barbara Ballet and the Nevada Dance Theatre where she performed leading classical and contemporary roles. She currently teaches, performs and choreographs in Las Vegas. With BALLET MINK COLBERT since 1996, she has toured with the company to Russia, Scotland and Denmark.

SOPHIE POLETTI was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She trained with Stanley Holden on full scholarship and immediately began dancing professionally. She has performed with the American Ballet Company, Ernesta Corvino's Dance Circle Company, and was with Nevada Dance Theatre for seven years. Ms. Poletti is a certified Pilates instructor. She has appeared with BALLET MINK COLBERT in 1999 and 2003.

YAEL ACHER holds a Bachelor's Degree of Music, Classical Flute Performing Arts from Rubin Academy for Music & Dance, Jerusalem, with additional courses in electronic music and jazz. She has also studied MAX/MSP, computer music, at Harvestworks in New York City.
Acher is a multiple genre instrumentalist/composer, performing and recording classical, contemporary, free-improvisation, electro/instrumental-jazz, and club groove. She has performed as a soloist and with ensembles, choirs, modern dancers, DJs and the circus. Berlingske Tidende has called her music, "Spellbinding, action packed and deeply original."

BYRON TAUCHI is assistant professor of violin at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. He has served as concertmaster of the National Orchestral Association, the New Philharmonic of New Jersey, the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, and as associate concertmaster of the San Jose Symphony. He has been a faculty member at the Brevard Music Festival since 1992 and currently chairs the string area. He has also been a member of the faculty at the University of Santa Clara in California.

Cellist ANDREW SMITH is currently an Associate Professor of Music at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. As a member of the Cerberus Trio, UNLV's piano trio in residence, he has played many concerts on campus and throughout the Southwest. Prior to his appointment at UNLV He played with the Nicoletti String Quartet for three years at the University of California, Santa Barbara where he received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 1997. He has studied chamber music with such notable musicians as Felix Galimir, Leon Fleischer and Julius Levine, as well as members of the Juilliard, Guarneri, Emerson, Alban Berg, Vermeer, Muir, and American string quartets. He has also participated in numerous chamber music festivals, among them the Taos School of Music, Kneisel Hall, The Quartet Program, and Bravo! Colorado. For two years he was principal cellist with the West Virginia Symphony, where he was in residence as a member of the Montani String Quartet. He has won several awards and prizes, including first prize in the Performing Arts Scholarship Foundation competition in Santa Barbara, and an Esperia Foundation grant to study with the eminent Hungarian cellist Csaba Oncay at the Liszt Academy in Budapest. Mr. Smith has also been a faculty member of several summer festivals, including the Las Vegas Music Festival, the Hamptons Summer Music School, and the San Diego Chamber Music Workshop. In 1998 and 1999 he participated in the Music at Penns Woods Festival at Penn State University, where he was Principal Cellist of the Festival Orchestra. This summer Dr. Smith will return for the fourth time to Dakota Chamber Music, a week-long chamber music institute devoted to young musicians in Minot, ND, where he teaches and performs with colleagues Jon Rumney and members of the Ying Quartet. He is a founding faculty member of the Adriatic Chamber Music Festival in southern Italy, where he will return this summer for the sixth year. He will also be performing for the third summer at The Festival Internacional de Deiá in Mallorca, Spain.

Danish composer/saxophonist THOMAS HASS has been an active participant in numerous projects and jazz groups since 1985. He has recorded internationally, created filmmusic and is currently working on a new release with singer Kendra in Berlin.
