Welcome to The "ALOHA BANKS" Clipper Marine 30 Web Page!

karrlake.jpg

This web-blog is my online journal of the refitting project on my CM30 Clipper Marine Sailboat. You'll find a variety of topics on the actual refitting as well as links to other sites on the web that I have found helpfull in the project.

Here "She" is. This is the boat sitting in her slip on Karr Lake. The boat is now 90% complete. My ne goal is to have her ready for the spring cruise sailing season.

I'll try update the web site as often as I can.

Its Summer,,,,At last

Up date, Coast guard renaming and registration has been sent off and should be received back any day, Re-Christening is planned for the last of June so we can sail on the 4th of July. I’m setting up the single handed rigging and the living quarters are almost livable. Starting in July we will be spending our weekend on the boat. It will be so good to final say the “ALOHA BANKS” is back on the water.

Ok here is the catch up. First the boat is in the water and most of the interior is completed. Paty and the kids spent one weekend on the boat over labor day. Rick helped me pull the boat from my home to the lake and we launched her in July.  I plan on spending one week this month on the boat to finish the water system and the shore power. I will add the electronics and the nav station before the sailing season starts in April. The boat sits well in the water which was a concern after changing the interior as I did.

Sunday Feb 3, 2008

Where has the winter gone, behind us I hope. Went to Mexico for Christmas and haven’t worked mush on the boat since then. My son Rick and I did get the hull insulated and the laminate up in the ”V” birth area. The 1” insulation foam was glued to the hull with 3 M and then the laminate was applied. Pictures are added on the refit page. I’ve started to cut the foam and will do the cushions next week. Davits, swim platform and rudder will be the following week. Finally the reefing jib and the water storage tank will complete the necessary items to get her back in the water.

One more Item off the list.

Actually about 15 items are off the list. The electrical system s now in place and working as planned. I have four lights working. The cabinet doors are all completed and ready for installation. The "V" Birth has been totally refurbished with new wood and a layer of fiberglass to prevent any further damage from water. Sole, floor has been fitted, stained and ready for varnish next weekend.

Huracane Season delay

Well we are close enough to relaunch but I could not see taking the boat to the marina as Hurricane season starts. I figure we will wait till the end of October and then put her in for the year. That way I can pull her out next September if I need to.

We are getting closer

Returning from Mexico this month I was ready to get to work on the boat. I guess it was the fact that the application for Immigration has finally been submitted, what ever it was I sure got a lot done. The cabinet doors and the cabin doors are completed except for the 5 coats of varnish which is being put on nightly in my house. The Dinette is completed as far as wood work and only requires Stain, varnish and cushions.  Did I say done? It’s relative.

The last piece of the puzzle.

Rick and I have been discussing the last piece of furniture which is the aft seat of the dinette for over two months and finally last week we had it. When I return from Mexico later this month I plan on completing the dinette with this change. A little work on the trim of the cabin and two coats of varnish and "Aloha Banks" will be almost ready to be put back in the water.

I'm actually finding out what a blog is. It’s a convenient way to let you family and friends know what has been going on in your life. Lets you know how busy most of us are. I do hope next week to be able to show some progress with the boat. I have wood coming in and with a little luck I'll have my doors to hang this weekend.

This is where it all started with Ricki and me putting his boat in the water and taking mine out. At least the refit. Notice the cradle on the car hauler Ricki designed and built to  move his boat from Maryland to Raleigh with boat unseen. That’s Ricki's Ford F350 full size diesel pulling the CM30 on our 27’ sailboat trailer.

Be sure to get in touch so I know you're out there! Use the contact page for our e-mails.

Notes on the progress from Jan 2006 to July 2008

Next; Finish interior, Lights inside and out, Motor controls, Rudder, Standing Rigging with furler, Safety lines, Drive to Marina and Launch,,,,Mark all complete but now no money for a party
