SUNSHINE MINIS

The MINI survey question for January 2008 is...
what octane fuel do you use and why?

Here are eight responses...

(1) I USE REGULAR WITH NO PROBLEMS

(2)  When I can remember I use 89 or middle grade.  Seemed to do o.k. on 87.

(3) We use regular and do so because the mini dealership (Downtown Mini of Orlando) assured us that is what they use in all their cars. Our saleperson has driven Mini's since they came out and has only ever used regular.  To date we have not had any problems.

(4)  Wife uses regular or mid grade - cost conscious.   Husband uses high test but admits he can't feel any difference in performance.

(5) I use 87 octane. It runs fine and, of course, is much less expensive. I have always read that if the motor doesn't ping, you are not hurting anything. I have always used 87 in both trucks and cars.

(6) I use regular, 87 octane.  My owners manual recommends high octane but recommends going no lower than 87 octane.  I use 87 and can't detect any problem.  I do not race my MINI.  Nothing but motoring.  My book also says that even if you detect some pinging at high outside temperatures, that will have no negative long term or short term effect on the engine.

(7)  I use 87 (regular) in my Mini....Reason is that my salesman, & the service mgr. told me that would be fine...I haven't had any problems...Car rides very smooth................

(8)  I use regular gas (87 octane):  runs fine, costs less - car is 4 years old!
