Rifle Scopes

Over the years I have collected many scopes for my rifles.  Price variations between my scopes are substantial.  The following is my comments on various scopes.

Hensoldt 6x42 illuminated HK-PSG1 custom.  The scope and the mount are custom design to fit the PSG1.  It has point blank range (less than 100 meters) elevation turret.  Fixed mount for unquestionable zero retention.  Excellent clarity and with illuminated red dot, it is very easy to aim.  Made in Germany, retail $1500.

Swarovski 10x42mm Barrett 82A1 custom.  Excellent clarity but it's complex range compensated reticle is tailor to 50 cal.  This is definitely a scope for serious shooter.  Made in Austria, retail $1400.

Kahles 2.2-9x42mm 990811kah.jpg (9775 bytes)  Kahles is a spin-off division of Swarovski.  Excellent clarity and special range finding reticle which vary the width of the cross hair with different magnification.  This is a great all purpose scope and it is one of my favorite scope.  Made in Austria, retail $800.

Swarovski Habicht 6x42mm 990811hab.jpg (12856 bytes)  Excellent clarity and easy to focus.  Since it has low magnification, it is ideal tactical and mid-range scope.  Made in Austria, Retail $800.

Springfield 4-14x56mm 3rd generation illuminated 990811spr.jpg (9381 bytes)  Excellent clarity with complex range compensated reticle tailor to .308 cal.  Wide range magnification which make it suitable for tactical as well as long range shooting.   Illuminated green reticle allows low light shooting.  Made in USA, retail $650.

Zeiss Diavari C 3-9x36mm.  Good clarity but not so easy to aim.  Not worth the money.  Made in USA, retail $500.

Leupold M8 6x42mm.  Good clarity and easy to aim.  A good lightweight mid-range scope.  Made in USA, retail $350.

Nightforce 4x21mm 990811nig.jpg (23259 bytes)  Good clarity and very easy to aim.  Range compensated reticle tailor to .308 cal.  Compact and lightweight make it my first choice as a tactical scope.  Made in Japan, retail $300.

Sightron 3-9x40mm.  Good clarity and it's quality is about as good as the expensive European ones.  A good all purpose scope.  Made in China, retail $300.

Simmon Whitetail 6.5-20x50mm 990811sim.jpg (8856 bytes)  Fair clarity but not so easy to aim.  High magnification make it suitable for mid to long range shooting.  Made in Japan, retail $160.

Beromo 12x50mm.  Fair clarity but have problem holding zero.  Save your money buy a different one.  Made in Belarus, retail $80.

Simmon Deerfield 4x21mm.  Fair clarity.  It's only advantage is that it is easier to aim than the iron sight.  Made in Japan, retail $20.

Leapers 4x20mm 990811lea.jpg (12567 bytes)  Fair clarity, designed to be mounted on AR-15 type rifle.  Compact and lightweight tactical scope.  It is not too bad to aim with considering the price.  Made in China, retail $20.

Swarovski 1.5x20mm for Steyr Aug 990811aug.jpg (11183 bytes)  Without a doubt this is a superior sight system than an ordinary iron sight.  Fast target acquisition and great optic clarity.  Integrated into Aug receiver for higher hit probability.  A truly unique aiming system.  Made in Austria, sold with rifle only.
