"The word masterpiece is thrown around a lot, but "Mother Courage and Her Children"-a fierce, controlled, poetry-of-iron production of which opened last night at the Shakespeare Theatre-is a genuine one.
There are scenes in "Mother Courage" that are in and of themselves classics. Mother Courage counseling a young soldier(Mark Mineart) to quell his rage because it isn't strong enough to do any real good, singing to him the bleak 'Song of Capitulation.'"
