Pierre Pouchot (1712-1767) was born at Grenoble and entered the French army in 1733 as an engineer officer. After having seen service in Italy, Flanders, Germany, and Austria, he accompanied his regiment (Bearn Regiment) to Canada in 1755 and he served with distinction in the Seven Years' War (French & Indian War) in America. He was in command of Fort Niagara when it was captured by the British in 1759 and was taken prisoner & exchanged. By 1760 he commanded Fort Levis and vigorously opposed the advance of General Amherst on Montreal. After his return to France, he was employed in Corsica and killed there in 1767. Fine copy $95
