This army was another step in my quest to field all the enemies of New Kingdom Egypt. This version of the Early Bedouin DBA list represents the Midianites, the camel-mounted foes of the Hebrews (and Egyptians, of course). There aren't a lot of DBA armies that field large numbers of camels, so those that do tend to be popular. Although camels are not world-beaters, players don't end up facing them very often, so they can cause some problems for opponents on the battlefield. They're great against opposing mounted troops, but lackluster against all but the lightest of enemy foot. This was a fun army to paint, and they even scored a tournament victory in their first appearance in Eric Luczaj's "I Just Want to Kill Something" tournament at teh Warparty 2006 convention in Cincinnati.

This camp is meant to represent a winding gulley in which a band of Midianite raides have holed up. One archer (an unused camel rider) sits atop a boulder, watching over the passasgeway. An archer afoot leads a donkey piled high with provisions and an Egyptian boy destined for slavery. The boulders are simply aquarium gravel and various other pebbles epoxied together. The sloping surface of the gulley is created with Liquitex modeling paste. Woodland Scenics flocking and railroad ballast finish it out as vegetation or rocks along the gulley. Not my best camp ever, but a creative one I felt, nonetheless.
