I like how this camp came together. Although it's elements are fairly basic -- a tent, firepit, guards, etc., they seemed to blend together nicely. Since a key component of one of Charlemagne's armies would be its mounted troops, I thought it was important they were represented on the base. So, I took a couple spare horses (one Essex, one Old Glory) and hitched them to a scratch-built post. The tent is resin from Musket Miniatures, while the logpile is also from them, I believe, in their "camp components" pack. The rocks around the firepit are the ever-useful aquarium gravel drybrushed black to show smoke stains. The camp guards are actually Celtic figs. The unarmored one is from Old Glory, while I'm not 100% sure where I got the armored one from. I think he is Old Glory, as well, but from a different pack.
This camp was a commission and was sold to my friend Nick Gillispie (of the Kanawha Riflemen in Charleston, WV) for $40.
