Well, if the leaders ignore the "Mentally strong and morally straight" part...

This is not a surprise: "Boy Scout Executive Charged in Child Porn Case" If the leaders don't follow the scout oath and law, but those who do not have a belief in god (or gods) or may have a different lifestyle then those around them, follow the oath and law better then the leaders, this places the scouts in the very conundrum that they claim they are against. It seems to me that cases of child molestation are higher among straight leaders in Scouting then those who are homosexual. Scouting, which is fighting to keep the "Three G's" (Girls, Gays, and the Godless) out of the organization, has its own problem with child molesters. However, when you think about it, all the leaders have to do is claim that he/she (Women can be scout leaders just not members. I know the hypocrisy of it all) professes a belief in God, sign the religious statement on their enrollment form, and the national organization will look the other way. No Muss, No Fuss I find it odd that in an article on MSNBC, Scott Shields, the spokesperson for the Boy Scouts of America Nation Headquarters, refused to answer a question poised by the reporter. At the end of the interview the reporter wanted to follow up with a question on the various legal battles involving discrimination against Atheists/Agnostics and Gays. I'm quoting the article directly here as I feel this returns to the conundrum the scouts find themselves in:

Smith is himself an Eagle Scout. (And according to his photo a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow)

The scouts have been under fire in recent years for refusing to allow gays, atheists or agnostics into the organization.

That’s totally irrelevant to this, Shields said.

Um, Scott...

Maybe it’s time to take a look at your leaders?
