Democrats in Anaheim in 2008?
As I surfed the web this morning, before jumping into the fray of the torn apart FleetCenter, I came across an article from the Orange County Register which raised the possibility of Anaheim hosting a political convention in 2008. This Friday, my hometown, is hosting a breakfast for Democratic party officials to go over the opportunities and facilities we can offer as a city.
For an arena we have the Arrowhead Pond, a great cavernous building which has HD broadcast facilities, home to the 2003 Western Conference Champions Mighty Ducks and a great place to stage the delegates and speakers. Angel Stadium could host a huge kickoff bash/concert. Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine could host various political symposiums inviting the public during the day and host parties and mixers at night. The Anaheim Convention Center has served as the convention site for the California Democratic party and makes a great exhibition center for grassroots organizations. Media organizations can use the parking lot of the Pond and can build sets and stages at the Convention center.
As for lodging, delegates can stay on the coast, inland, or within walking distance of the Convention Center at the Anaheim Hilton.
I for one would love to see Anaheim host a Democratic National Convention, it would sure save me the cost of flying to the east coast.
Go Kerry, Go Dems, and see you in Anaheim in 2008!
