SECURITY ISSUES:

Thanks to Gibson Research for providing Test My Shields and Probe My Ports, a couple of security related online tests.

Sygate provides a series of port scans that you should run. First their "pre-scan", then try "Quick Scan".

Of course, DSLReports has a port scanner test utility available too.

IT Securities in Germany offers netbios, backorifice, netbus and password probing tests.

Hacker Whacker offers tests that I haven't tried yet. (seems to require you to signup via email).

Norton/Symantec Security Check

Ken Kalish's Remote Security Tester checks several TCP ports.

MISC:

PCMagazine's NetPerSec utility lets you monitor the real time throughput of your internet connection, on your machine. (backup download location from CNET)

WinPoet PPPoE client by Carrick Solutions Limited.

RASPPPOE seems to be a much better solution then WinPoet.

The Navas Group hosts some great info on DSL and Cable and also MODEM connection, tweaking, why-fors, etc!

Linux Modem sharing mini-HOWTO

AnalogX has lots of free software to take advantage of your new high speed connection.
