Software:
- JP Software, the makers of
4DOS, the great command.com replacement.
- The Semware
Corporation makes TSE - The Semware Editor - A really great
DOS text editor with a greatly powerful scripting language. TSE seems to be
kinda falling behind in these days of Windows tho...
- mIRC is the best Windows-based
IRC client I've found, when I used to have time for IRC.
- Pegasus Mail by David
Harris is a great Windows-based email program. And it's FREE
- Linux Home Page
- LinuxBerg menu, for a good
collection of Linux software.
- The Apache HTTP Server
Project is a free, unix-based HTTP server. Looks really good.
- Ciri
(Ciriaco Garcia de Celis) is the author of 2M, a TSR that lets
you store 1.8 megs on a 1.44 floppy - and more... Unfortunately, 2M doesn't
work well with Windows 95 or 98 - Phht.
- Netscape was the best
browser for a long time, but I can't really say that anymore. But it's a clear
number two anyway.
- Go to Microsoft's big web
site to get the latest Internet Explorer browser.

Internet Access Provider Lists:
I've only found two lists that are truely useful -
-
THE LIST, by far the best
of the nation-wide lists, updated continuously.
(by area
code) -
(206)
(360)
(253)
- The
Seattle Community Network's
well done Puget Sound
ISP page.
- And some others:
- Boardwatch
magazine lists ISPs, and lots more.
-
CNET information on ISP's, web tools, etc. Their
comparision chart has filters for your area code, needs, etc. Not
great.
-
Houston, Texas Internet Access Providers. Also at this site
has an interesting page of Houston
line
quality tests and explanations, including some cool undocumented
registers available on most v.34 (28.8) USRobotics modems.
- POCIA - Lame,
doesn't include *many* providers I have seen elsewhere.
Free internet services:
(this section is out of date - after the
dot.com crashes of the last year, not much free stuff around anymore)
A few "free" providers, that may still exist...
Access 4 Free (10 hrs/month free)

Free WWW pages:
Free access:
- NoPay.Net WA access. (ads)
- FreeI free access and email.
(ads) (out of business - taken over by NetZero now)
- NoCharge free access and
web-based email. ($ for support)
- AltaVista free access and
email (web-based, plus SMTP (and POP3 soon)). (ads)

Other:
- BigFoot is an email redirecting
service, handy if you change ISP's a lot.
