WHAT THE HELL DID I EVER DO TO
MONTEZUMA?

Now, South of the border, I never have gone:
Los Cabos, Tampico or old Mazatlán.
No, none of these cities have ever yet seen my face.
I love all the culture, the hist'ry, the dance.
I'd love to go down there if given the chance.
But lately I've settled for eating up all the food.
Burritos and tacos, the usual fare:
the closest I get to my being down there.
Tomales, tostadas, I savor them one and all.
I got real excited on seeing this sign,
way out in the desert, a woman reclined:
"Experience Mexico like you have not done before."
WHAT THE HELL DID I EVER DO TO MONTEZUMA
that he thinks he's got to take it all out on me?
How'd I get his curse? Why's he making it worse?
WHAT THE HELL do I DO TO EVER get him to leave?
Another new billboard each mile down the way
declares "MONTEZUMA's" the place I should stay
to get the authentic experience Mexican.
With all of this buildup, of course I'm let down.
Five shacks of adobe: some Mexican town!
But I can't complain much; the food isn't all that bad.
I don't know exactly what else is in store.
Two lovely conchitas are offering more
when something inside me insists that I can not stay.
I run for el baño up curved wooden stairs.
I'm not sure I'll make it the whole way up there.
My belly's exploding and I'm sure I'm going to die.
CHORUS
It's the revenge of the mummy done Mexican style.
The revenge in the tummy where something's gone wild.
The next sev'ral hours completely alone,
expelling amoebas on an old Aztec throne.
To say that it's nasty is slightly to understate.
The lovely conchitas I don't see again.
I'm totally wasted: the big man's revenge.
It may be authentic, but I won't eat there no more.
CHORUS
