Tutorials: Making Office Applications Easily Accessible

Option 1: Create desktop aliases
This will put icons for your Office programs on your computer's desktop. Open up your Office programs folder from where you normally launch these applications. Command-Option-drag the programs you want to the Desktop. You'll then have clickable icons to quickly open these programs.

Option 2: Use the Office Manager (Office 98 and 2001 only)
This will add a new Office menu to your menu bar. This option is especially useful if you will need to open an Office application from any screen on your computer, not just the Desktop.
Download the Office Manager free of charge from Microsoft. Run the installer that is provided. You will then see a small Office icon next to the clock in the menu bar; click it and choose any Office application to start the application.

Option 3: Add applications to the Apple menu (Office 98 and 2001 only)
This simply adds the appropriate application to the Apple menu for quick access. Click it from the Apple menu in any application to launch.

Download the Add Alias to Apple Menu script. Drag this script into the following location:
Macintosh HD:System Folder:Apple Menu Items
Now, just click any applications (or any file for that matter) that you want to add to the Apple menu. Then, go to the Apple menu and choose the "Add Alias to Apple Menu" script!

Option 4: Add to the Dock (OS X only)

There is no Office Manager included with OS X. OS X does not include a customizable Apple menu either. Microsoft has provided an alternate method: adding applications to the Dock.
