The Orkney Pass R.R. Description

Built as a free-lance Colorado narrow gauge layout in a loop-to-loop pattern. The OPRR was designed to allow for real train operations and long continuous runs. Not to mention keeping the lawn intact.

Trains travel the single track main line to service three main locations.

The main town of Dean Colorado . The latest ongoing expansion has engine facilities in a Chama
Colorado like appearance with a dual spout water tower, coaling tipple and a two track yard. Dean now also has a much larger town with a main street and church. Machine, farm products,  mining concentrates and processed goods originate here.

The trip takes the train through Shed Tunnel and under the bridges to Grass Valley. From there up to the forest area past Round Rock and around Bo's Bend to the pond bridge.

The grade rises steadily to 3.5% into our next stop.

The boom town of Planter Flats. Mining ore and crude oil are brought here for transport on freight sidings. Passengers come for the hot springs discovered in the hills outside of town. In the future there will be a turntable and minimal engine facilities.

Continuing up the grade and over three bridges to the next stop is the Shadow Mountain Mine. Coal and silver are taken from the mine down to Planter Flats and Dean. The inspiration  for this location comes from the Ophir mine in Colorado.

Shadow Mountain is the end of the line and trains return by reverse loop back the way they came.
