| Baz Luhrmann’s Production of Puccini’s La Boheme will start performances on January 9, 2004, at The Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. It will run there until March 7. It will be great to be home in California, where it's warm, for the winter. Boheme got rave reviews in New York at The Broadway Theatre and enjoyed a period of being the “hottest ticket in town.” The poor economy, strikes and electrical explosions next door, combined with the inherent complexities of marketing an Italian opera on Broadway, all conspired to shorten the New York run to a somewhat respectable seven months. |
| Boheme played to sell-out crowds in San Francisco’s Curran Theatre. It was exciting to be playing in a theatre where I had seen so many shows when I was in school. It was especially exciting to hear the response of the audience night after night, literally gasping at the beauty of the staging. Below is a picture of the opening of Act II. I have modestly highlighted myself in the shot; that’s me as the Ironmonger, about to sell Schaunard a toy saxophone.
