30-Dec 2002 Monday 7:17 PM |
Only like a week before my big trip. I haven't packed anything, I have this
feeling that I am totally unprepared. Oh well. I saw the Jackass movie last nite,
and it was just as I had suspected, stuff that wasn't that funny, stupid stunts,
and occasionally some stuff that was really funny, but that was a minority
portion of the flick. We rented The Original Kings of Comedy, and I highly
enjoyed it. It was quite well done. I've really started enjoying the music of OK
Go, they have a great sound, kinda pop-punk, sorta like BFF in a way, but not
quite the same. I have to make lists of the crap I need to take with me to the
UK. Eh, I feel sick, I'll write more later.

29-Dec 2002 Sunday 1:10 AM |
Well, now that I've seen Chicago and Barbershop today, I am ready to make my
final list for the year 2002, and I hope I'm not forgetting something. So here
they are, the top 10:
10. Catch Me If You Can
9. Barbershop
8. Death To Smoochy
7. Minority Report
6. Gangs of New York
5. Femme Fatale
4. Adaptation
3. About A Boy
2. Y Tu Mama Tambien
1. About Schmidt
There it is, the whole deal. I thought it would be better to put the list in
an order that emphasizes more of the comedies that I enjoyed, because that is a
favorite, and I think that smart comedies need to be recognized because a lot of
the time they are much better than what ever bullshit Russell Crowe puts out.

Well, Christmas and Festivus has come and gone. I saw yet another great movie
today: About Schmidt. I think I'm going to have to make a top-ten list of movies
this year, since there were so many that I liked. I don't know what would go
where. Hmm, I'll make a list of what I really liked, look it over, then rank
them. Damn, I'm not sure if About Schmidt was better than Election, because
Election was one of my favorite movies. Well, it's kinda late, and I really have
no drive to write more, but I'll try to share last thoughts and that final list
after I see Chicago, which I think could make it, it has John C. Reilly, and he
is quite good.
I should note that I got Back To The Future - the Trilogy on DVD and the
Badly Drawn Boy CD that I wanted for Christmas, and both were great.

Well, the semester is over. I'm back home. We just got cable high-speed
internet. That's also why I get to host this site free of charge... to me. We
are using Earthlink and so far so good. Hopefully this will be the resting place
for this site.
I got my grades back, and my GPA dropped a little, to 3.38, which is much
better than high school. My lowest and most common grade is still a B-. I got my
highest PoliSci grade this semester, a B+ in Hill, which was one of my hardest
classes so far, and it's a 100-level class.
Well, Christmas is coming quickly, and I still haven't purchased gifts for
anybody really. I'm bad at this. We're going to make Muddy Buddies tonite.
I saw a bunch of great movies in the past couple of weeks and none of them
start with Lord of the Rings. I saw Gangs of New York, Femme Fatale, and
Adaptation, all three of which just blew my fragile little mind. I can't wait to
get them on DVD. Which reminds me that Christmas is in a couple of days,
hopefully bringing me the BTTF DVD trilogy!! That and a car. But it will
probably be the former rather than the latter.
I found out that my brother is taking drivers ed, god help us.

The greatest picture ever painted.

Sheldon Mopes [Edward Norton in Death to Smoochy]:
Captain Kangaroo, like Jesus Christ, was someone you could
really believe in. With those guys it wasn't about the bells and whistles and
the ricketa-racketa, it was all about the work. Especially Jesus.
Watched Death To Smoochy again tonite with Sara, Paul and Aaron, that movie
really cracks me up, and I can watch it over and over again.
I had to go move the car and I need to get a new permit so that I don't get
tickets, so I parked it in Sacred Heart.
I went curling this weekend and had tons of fun, almost too much fun, but I
made new friends and I know that I'll probably go back and do it again next
year, but it is a shame that Hinckley won't be there, because then we can't
churn butter and sing Bring It To The House :(, but her memory will live on in
spirit in the years to come.
I got a nice refresher in Dorsher's class on HTML, it was fun to do it again,
I still remember most of it from grade school, and I forgot how good pages can
look if you know the correct HTML code. You can make it quite exact, instead of
dinking around with FrontPage2K trying to make stuff look right, like the
painting of Kramer at the right. It should be noted that the artist in that
episode who was the one who painted this was none other than the magnificent and
perfect Catherine Keener. I'm gonna have to order that poster on the right, and
if I can find one, maybe a poster of M[r]s. Keener.
I am also working on a transition to a web-based hosted blog because hosting
it on my computer means one can only read this when I have my computer on in my
dorm, which isn't all the time, and I'll only be here for what, two more weeks.
Gosh, time has really flown!

I think the sorry is implied. Again, I've been slacking off. Not that much
has happened since the last entry. I went home for Thanksgiving and had a rather
good time. I have to write this Peterson paper, I have a Calc test on Thursday, and my internship paper. Needless to say I have 9,000
things going on tomorrow, and I have yet to start on all of the things I have to
do, so I really need to and should stop wasting my time on this and actually do
the work. I shouldn't promise to write more soon, because we all know that won't
happen.

25-Nov 2002 Monday 4:25 PM |
Alright, I'm sorry again for not writing more in the past couple of weeks, I
just haven't gotten around to it, and I will make a real effort to do more in
the next few weeks that I am still in the states. I still need to figure out a
place to host when I go to the UK so I can keep a web journal of sorts. I am
going to try to upload some of the pictures that I've taken for Photo class
right now, hopefully you'll enjoy them.

Ok, sorry again about not writing for a few days, I'm far too lazy to have
this much responsibility. I did the portrait shoot yesterday with A Rizz-on. I
have to develop them then print one that turned out well, and he may use some of
the shots for anal-bum cover. Looks like I'm going curling again this semester,
Seth King, lord of the dance, sent out an e-mail, it's usually fun. I have 3
tests in the next two days, fun, fun, fun. Well, I have to get to class and read
Lileks before I go. I won't promise to write more later.

10-Nov 2002 Sunday 1:26 PM |
Yes, it has been a long time since I’ve written in the M-BOB. I’m at Hardee’s at
the moment, I decided to write a remote entry because then I’m sure to actually
put some time into writing it. Mmm, the new Hardee’s Chili Double Cheeseburger
is excellente, very filling and quite pricey.
There have been so many things going on that make me not want to write. A great
American died, another great American lost an election to a slimy opportunist.
The US Senate is controlled by a party that tends to care more about money than
the people of this country. The POTUS wants us to attack Iraq preemptively, a
first for America.
Bush wants to attack Iraq for having the capability to make nukes, whereas
North Korea,
which probably already has Nukes, is being ignored. We all know that we’d be
itching to go into North Korea if they had oil. I almost forgot, we need to go
into Iraq
because of the human rights abuses, and the reason why we leave North Korea
alone is because they have a crystal clean human rights record. Oh wait, they’re
probably worse than Iraq. I guess we don’t need to worry about the Far East Axis
of Evil member because we’re spending $60 billion on a National Missile Defense
System that doesn’t work. Oh, and if Iraq does get nukes, they don’t have the
capability to launch them with an ICBM. If they wanted to use them on us, they’d
have to bring them to the mainland. So we need the NMD System to protect
ourselves from…?
Nobody in the
international system thought it was a good idea for the US to pull out of the
ABM Treaty, but the smartest man in America, Shrub, thinks it is a good idea to
spend more on a defense system that will never be used, that would cost each
American $214 in taxes to build, oh, and I almost forgot, IT DOESN’T WORK! We
figured that out during the cold war.
I
don’t know how the hell we got the entire UN Security Council to approve action
against Iraq if they refuse inspections. Bush, who only likes the UN when they
do what he wants, and otherwise ignores almost everything that they say or do. I
guess we “elect” the leaders that we deserve.
I
suppose that’s enough political talk for now. I saw quite a few good movies
since my break from blogging. I saw Y Tu Mama Tambien, which we are going to
show on campus this next weekend, and I really enjoyed it. I guess I’m writing a
review for it for the Speculator.
I
just saw 8 Mile last nite, and I really enjoyed it, I didn’t get what they were
talking about when they said stuff about 313 (their area code?) or 8 Mile, I
guess that’s a bad part of Detroit. It was really well made, and Ebert is right,
it is basically the Rocky of Rap.
I
saw Punch Drunk Love in Minneapolis a couple of weeks ago, that movie was
excellente. Adam Sandler was truly funny for a change and he has shown that he
can actually act. He didn’t do that stupid oobie-doobie crap that carried him to
the top of immature comedy. Don’t get me wrong, I think that some of his movies
were funny, not high humor, but worth a chuckle or two. I think that people that
like those movies will be really disappointed by PDL. The flick was written and
directed by PTA, the guy who wrote and directed Boogie Nights and Magnolia, both
of which were excellent too.
I
saw One Hour Photo the nite that PDW died it get my mind off of it, and I
thought that was really good. I’m not a huge fan of Robin Williams doing
straight up serious acting, but he did an excellent job in OHP. I usually like
his roles in the Good Will Hunting roles or Dead Poets Society, but I didn’t
really like him in the Fisher King or other movies like that. Other than that, I
can’t really think of any movies that really struck me as good when he was
acting.
Well, as much as I like sitting in this place filled with WT, I really should
get back to work on my paper for Peterson about how religious denominations
affect voting habits and voter turnout. I hate people who say that they always
lie to pollsters to mess with the outcome; that pisses me off. As Cartman would
say “Democrats Piss Me Off.” More later.

Wow, it has been a long time since I've written anything in this Blog. I
decided that the mindless drivel that I write here wouldn't suit the mood of the
loss of the greatest Senator I have ever known, Paul Wellstone. So much has
happened since then. Mondale is up to take his place in the election tomorrow. I
will be going back to the cities for the election, and I'll be taking lots of
pictures. I will write more after the election when life gets back to normal.
