25-Oct 2002 Friday 12:13 PM

Yes, yes, I know, I haven't written anything in quite some time. The main reason is because my wonderful laptop came, and I haven't used this computer much, and this is my server, so therein lies the reason. I know there is new news, but I can't think of it now. I don't hate journalism as much as I did earlier in the semester, I used to hate my News Reporting and Writing class, now I don't as much, and I actually have fun writing ledes. Today I'm just in a classical music mood, I haven't really listened to it much since I was in band in highschool, I actually miss my MaryBeth Baritone. However,  I don't miss the other people in band, they're worse than people from Horan, Packers Fans, and Current US Presidential Administrations combined! There's just something about listening to soothing music and sitting in front of a relaxing warm radiator (that crackles more than a fireplace). Eh, my room is really messy now, I need to start cleaning up. I just had a strange thought, what if I plugged both ends of a LAN cable into both sockets of my mini hub in the wall? Would it short out the whole university network, forcing me to find another school with a decent connection and network? Only one way to find out... maybe I'll try it on Dan's port :).

22-Oct 2002 Tuesday 6:41 PM

Started listening to this really cool African tune, called Mambo Jesu (not Mambo like Mambo music, it's something else, listen if you can). It really just cheers me up, not that I'm down, but it is an uplifting upbeat song. If only uptight white Christians could sing like this... I also caught the end of Mumford on Comedy Central when I went to Hilltop to eat, that's a great movie, check it out if you haven't already seen it.

22-Oct 2002 Tuesday 3:54 PM

So Aaron and I went to our new, future apartment today. It is at 202 Main Street, and we will sign the lease on Thursday or maybe even tomorrow. The one that we want has huge ceilings and has lots of windows and space, it is a classy joint. My laptop should arrive tomorrow, so I've decided to include the specs of it here for you all to drool over. I have the UPS Tracking page open in Opera and I have it reload every minute so I can know its exact movements. I have like 900 things going on tomorrow, so it may take me a while before I can even get it, but I'm sure I'll make the time. I've also been watching tons of Southpark episodes, I can't believe I haven't seen them all by now, but I'm sure with enough effort, I will be able to.

20-Oct 2002 Sunday 11:14 PM

Well, I'm back from my long break. I'm quite giddy, I won the auction for the laptop, it is so exciting. I'll leave the details later, and just let the record reflect that I started writing this quite a while ago, and I'm only this far now. I went to Seinfeld, and it was funny, but not $50 funny. Aaron and I are looking for a place to live next year, and we just may have an apartment that would be perfect in downtown Eau Claire, but we'll know for sure come Tuesday. Never have I been this giddy. Well, I have, but I like saying that.

I did quite a few things this weekend. I went to see The Transporter, and I must say that a movie that had so many cool scenes shouldn't have sucked as much as that did. I rented Big Trouble, and I think the reason why people hated it was because it was only an hour and a quarter long and the book has so much info that it should have been 3 hours. It was still pretty funny, good cast too.

Found out that Dorsher is giving extra credit for that test, so I may be able to save my soul. I better get to bed so I can be up for his class.

16-Oct 2002 Wednesday 9:46 AM

This may well be the last entry of the week, I get to go home tomorrow, so I probably won't add anything then. I played a little GTA III last nite, I forgot how fun it is, and all these sniper shootings made me want to take my frustration out on others with some wholesome violence -- or as Chef Jeremy would say: Wholesale Slaughter. God I miss the Diner, but at least Lileks is still around writing for the Strib and doing his Daily Bleat. Well, I can't afford to miss another Dorsher class today, so I better get going on the whole shavin and showerin thing. Oh - I finished the Monsoon Wedding review, I think it turned out really well, only spent 15 minutes writing it, a personal record. Aaron thought it was my best one yet, who knows, I didn't proof read it myself.

15-Oct 2002 Tuesday 8:43 AM

Wow, this is the earliest I've been up in a long time. I have to work at the booth for smoking @ 10 in Davies, so I had to get up, and I'm actually not minding it that much. I've decided that oatmeal is the one food that I can eat every day and never get sick of it. That and Raspberry Ginger Ale (Schweppes), that I could drink everyday. I could listen to Moondance album everyday too (which I am listening to right now as well), God bless Van the Man.

I gotta shower and shave now, I just may write more, but I really have to finish the Monsoon Wedding review for the Spectator.

14-Oct 2002 Monday 12:15 PM

Pretty good weekend, watched a bunch of movies, downloaded like 10 SouthPark episodes, watched them all within the past 12 hours. I got kinda down because the Twins lost by a lot last nite. They got their asses handed to them. I can't believe I found so many  SouthParks that I've never seen. I skipped my first class of the Semester today, I was too tired to go to Dorsher's, so I decided to extend my weekend and watch more SouthPark this morning. I have to shower and go to Hill's world politics and then give a presentation to Freshmen about stress and stuff. This will be my first presentation for PHE, I hope it goes well.

13-Oct 2002 Sabbath 1:05 AM

Good Sabbath to all. just got done watching Dr. T and the Women, and it was actually a rather good movie. The first time I saw it, I didn't really like it, but that was like in high school before I, like Tommy, became aware. Altman is a great director, and it is so much fun to watch good movies with Moses' brother because we try to pick out all the symbolism, like the role of water, women and pants had in this movie. If you haven't seen it, the behind the scenes documentary described it perfectly, it is the story of Job, and he has everything, he is surrounded by women, but he doesn't understand them. I don't know what I'm talking about right now, just watch it and you'll know what I mean.

Went to family video to pick out this bad boy, got a bunch of other ones too. I bought Ghost World for $10.00, another goodie. I rented WarGames, The Revenge (or Return, not sure) of the Pink Panther, a Jean Reno flick, and Trekkies. Dan was so nice to allow us to use his car, we went to Wendy's after family video, and Mmm it was good. Their hamburgers are fresh, never frozen, you know? I had the spicy chicken.

Ouch, just checked the final score, the Twins got their asses handed to them, 7-1. They better win the rest, lose one more and they are out for good. And my mom took the time to send me a bunch of Homer Hankies. I'm gonna watch another movie, will write more tomorrow, or later today, whatever.

11-Oct 2002 Friday 9:55 AM

I just found out that my doggie Mischke is sick :(. This is so sad, I really hope he'll be ok, now I really wish I had went home last weekend. I wish I still had pictures of him. I'm sure he'll be fine. I don't feel like writing any more.

10-Oct 2002 Thursday 12:25 AM

Too bad the Twins lost tonite, but don't worry, they'll come back. The only thing that can cheer me up is a good joke, this attempt will surely win me the love of a woman: What's worse than a male chauvinist pig?

A woman who won't do as she is told.

And to think that I worked for friend to all, Paul Wellstone. Admit it, you know it is funny. I don't care for you to read my blog if you don't think that joke, or the Helen Keller joke below is funny.

09-Oct 2002 Wednesday 12:25 AM

Q: Why couldn't Helen Keller drive? See the answer here. If you don't like funny jokes, don't even bother looking at the answer. Oh, and I almost forgot:

TWINS WIN AGAIN!!!

That means they only have to win 7 more games to win the World Series!

08-Oct 2002 Tuesday 9:25 AM

Well, good news everybody, my first letter to the editor was published today in my hometown paper. You can read it here (it is the second to last one). This is quite exciting. I'll have to write more witty letters knocking this terrible administration, and hopefully they'll get published.  I guess I have to buy a paper today, and I'm glad, because I'll get to read Lileks in print instead of off my screen or from my printer. I think the Twins play tonight, so it is a good day today, and I have yet to even take my shower.

07-Oct 2002 Monday 11:48 PM

Aaron gave me the banner below, and I'm putting it up as a form of protest. I know it is just animated, and I highly doubt that it will change anybody's mind on this very important topic. Went chalking today for UAC Films, it is hard work, hopefully the turnout will be high. I've never seen the Producers, the movie we are showing, but I will have to see it this weekend. Jessie is supposed to write the review for it, hopefully the connection between reviews and turnout will remain. I'll probably write it for the next movie.

07-Oct 2002 Monday 9:48 AM

Gave a listen to the soundtrack for the Cotton Patch Gospel this morning. I forgot how much I love this musical. It is the story of Jesus' life told as if it all happened in Georgia, it has a lot of great points, and the music is really good. It isn't quite as earth-shaking as the Last Temptation, yet I find it just as valuable. I took the time last year to sit and copy all the songs from cassette to my computer, since there are no CDs of the music. Harry Chapin wrote all the songs for it, but it is performed by the talented cast. You can download the songs that I like best here, otherwise, if you can find a copy, I'd recommend looking into it.

06-Oct 2002 Sunday 11:53 PM

Still excited about the much needed victory for the Twins. Also found out that Dorsher is sick, so this means no CJ 222 tomorrow! I am quite happy for these and other reasons. Phil is happy too.

06-Oct 2002 Sunday 6:33 PM

TWINS WIN!!!

Sweet Lord, Thank You For Letting The Twins Win!!! 5-4, boy was it close at the end! I haven't been into a sports team in such a long time, but the Twins deserve it. If they become World Champs, they have to get a new stadium. I'll have to get some Homer Hankies sent up here to help me root on my hometown team!!! I sent a letter to the Editor of the Strib with this letter, hopefully it will be published tomorrow.

06-Oct 2002 Sunday 12:26 PM

Yesterday was a great movie day, went to Family Video, the greatest movie store on the planet. I rented 6 movies for 7 days, including 2 DVDs, and I only paid $3.10!!! I watched The Tailor of Panama (*** 1/2 / ****) and What Planet are you From (*** / ****). The latter was really funny, I haven't seen a movie as funny as that in quite some time. I also rented Bulworth (a great movie), Hard Eight (PTA's first big flick, never knew about it until now), Primary Colors (another political movie? I'm a polisci major, so sue me), and The Suicide Kings (looks like an all-star cast, probably not the lightest movie to watch).

Yesterday was quite cold (and those of you who know me really well, you know that when I start talking about the weather, it means that I have nothing to say or I'm really bored) so I didn't go outside much. I went to Dairy Queen to get a chili cheese dog, but they didn't put onions on it, so it wasn't that good.

What can I say, my hometown team kicked ass yesterday! If the Twins win today, they will win my respect back. So they better win, and go all the way!!!

05-Oct 2002 Saturday 7:01 PM

Saw Red Dragon, and ooh was it good. I thought it was better than Manhunter, and maybe even better than Silence of the Lambs. Hopkins is only in it for like 30 minutes tops, but he got $20 million for his part, yet Eddie Norton only got like $8 million, and he was in almost the whole thing. I'm sure soon enough he'll get the money that he deserves.

Watched Last Temptation of Christ last nite before Red Dragon, with Aaron. I thought it was very good, it really makes you wonder about Jesus the man, and less with the divinity of him. I never really thought of Jesus as not wanting to be the messiah, it was a real eye-opener.

03-Oct 2002 Thursday 5:54 PM

Finally, the weekend is here. I like the idea of a fall break, some homesickness day or something dumb like that. Started it off early with a little Castlevania for N64, the game is kinda hard, but pretty fun. I had my Calc test today, and I think I did fairly well. Gonna watch Last Temptation of Christ tonite I think. Check out this great site: http://www.tellthetruthnorm.com/

02-Oct 2002 Wednesday 9:04 PM

West Wing was amazing again. Some episodes last year kinda let me down, but they are back and better than ever.

Watched most of Sexy Beast tonite, it was quite good, kinda strange, but I liked it. I will watch the end soon and I'll give my final decision as to if it is good or not. I missed the discussion after the movie at the film club, so I will be without the insight of others as well.

Found out that I will not be going home this weekend, I will have to go see Red Dragon here. I guess I get a 3-day weekend, which will be good. I'll miss seeing Mischke and the gang down at WFS.

Today was a rather good day, I just thought I'd share that. And because I feel good today, I'll share a song with you, it is really good, called It's Just a Thought, by Creedence (The greatest all-American rock and roll band of all time).

01-Oct 2002 Tuesday 10:58 PM

I know, you're doing a doubletake... TWO entries in one day? I guess this ends my blog lazy streak. I tried to get my calendar to work on-line on the About Me page. I guess it doesn't work, but you can feel free to try.

I watched Smallville, it was rather good, but I hate the endings. Clark and Lana should just get together, we all know it is going to happen, just do it already.

I got the ticket, this is exciting, I can't wait to see Jerry in all his glory. The only thing that would be better is if they brought the show back, but that won't happen, so I'll have to be happy with re-runs.

I guess I heard that my site isn't working, so I'll try to fix that, but I have no idea what is going on.

01-Oct 2002 Tuesday 10:22 AM

Ah, back to the old web log, it has been a while. I've been a little busy, but I managed to find some time to write, so I will. As you may or may not know, I am mad at the Spectator because they edited out my best joke in my review of Amelie, and it wasn't that she took out the sentence, rather she re-wrote it. So now I'm sitting out the review of the Producers. I want to write one, but a boycott is a boycott. Hopefully somebody from UAC Films will do it. We always have higher turnout when there is a review.

I am so busy these days with a job, I really like what I do, but I tend to not enjoy the staff meetings. I feel terrible because I missed my first office hours last week, but I have to remember to go this week.

Ooh, today is the day that I get my ticket to see Jerry Seinfeld in Minneapolis. I think the show is on the 19th, and the guy is selling the ticket for $50, same price that it would cost to get in, and I know it is going to be a great show.
