Frankenstein
Must Be Destroyed! (June 1969)
Starring Cushing. Another Frankenstein picture, of course, Cushing's
fifth, and a very highly regarded one it is, too. Certainly the most ruthless
depiction of the character yet on screen, even featuring a controversial
rape scene added against the protest of nearly everyone involved. This
scene was not included in the initial U.S. run of the film, but has resurfaced
in recent years. The poster shown here is for the French version of the
film, where it has the somewhat tamer title, The Return of Frankenstein.
"...This man, bless his soul, is a supreme professional. Off screen,
he gives one all his considerable love. On screen, he gives his considerable
talent. His discipline is tungsten steel. He is special." – Maxine
Audley, co-star

Bloodsuckers
(1971)
Featuring Cushing in a decidedly supporting part, despite his second-billing.
This was actually lensed two years earlier, but held up either for legal
reasons, or because of extensive re-editing. Either way, what they ended
up with was a confused load of crap.

The
House That Dripped Blood (April 1971)
An anthology film starring Cushing in one segment, Waxworks. Appropriately,
Cushing's long-time colleague Christopher Lee also gets a segment of his
own, but Cushing fares less well here than his partner, the script being
mediocre at best, and the actor is unable to transcend the bland material.
Yes, that's Cushing's head on the platter there.
"...It was nice to actually have both of them, Cushing and Lee,
cast in straight roles and not as devils...They were always totally professional....As
an actor [Peter] was wonderful to work with, totally sympathetic, and listened
to everything that one had to say as a director..." – Peter Duffell,
director
