Wit & Wisdom

Okay, one doesn't have to be OLD to be considered a crone. In ancient times, women were divided into three main categories: maiden, mothers, and crones. The first two stages are easily explainable. The last, however, requires a bit more thought. Crones are women who have passed through enough life to gain 'seasoning.' We have faced the road of life by splashing in it's puddles, surfing giant waves, and grabbing onto a few lifesaving rings rather than drown. Now we're content to cruise the oceans, aware that the briny deep holds treasures and monsters in equal proportion. So here's to crones everywhere!

Thought

You are only as old as you feel. I'm old enough to be wise, young enough to be foolish, and smart enough to know the difference.

My writing career continues to allow me to explore the unknown. I am constantly searching for interesting people and places, and have been blessed by making friends throughout the world. My husband and I enjoy travel. We've been fortunate enough to visit the highlands of Scotland, the arctic waters of Alaska, the mystical hills of Ireland, and many other intriguing places. We've stumbled upon a marble mine in Canada. We've prayed at the base of the Moone Cross in Ireland with only the wind and the soft chimes of a few nearby cow bells for company. We've stayed in a castle in Wales complete with ghost and peacocks. Montana's Virginia City offered us our first taste of fried pickles. We've mined for: gold, rubies; sapphires, garnets, amethyst, and crystals. Learning is an ongoing process halted by fear alone. Age brings confidence and the ability to make a fool of yourself...which translates into the pure joy of learning that everything in life has a purpose if we but look for it.

My ancestry is German and English. That said, I sometimes believe that fairies whisked me into this upbringing by mistake. Approaching the Emerald Isle of Ireland my heart whispered that I was home. Whatever my lineage, I believe in dragons and soul mates. I've been happily married for thirty-two years. The bookmark that I found right before I married the man of my dreams says it all. No author was attributed to these words, but they have been imprinted on my heart..."Marriage is when one person weeps and the other tastes salt."

Ancient testaments to God

Thought

I am not in this world to be liked; I am in this world to fufill God's vision for my life--and while the two are not necessarily separate, I must learn that there will be times the effect of one will force me to abandon the other. M. Lacina 3/13/05
