William Brewster's Descendants

My name is Michael Heintz. I have genealogical information on William Brewster's lineage. William Brewster is the person responsible for bringing the Pilgrims to America on the Mayflower. I have a family tree which has much information, names, and dates I would like to share with any relative. My ancestry is as follows: William Brewster and Maude Mann, William Brewster(1535-1590)and Mary Smythe, Elder (Deacon) William Brewster (1567-1644)and Mary Wentworth (or Worrall)(d. 1627), Love Brewster (1611-1651) and Sarah Collier (1615-1691), Deacon William Brewster(1645-1723) and Lydia Partridge (d.1742), William Brewster(1683-1768) and Hopestill Wadsworth(1687-1773), Captain Elisha Brewster (1715-1789) and Lucy Yoemans (1722-1775), Sarah Brewster (1754-1827) and Deacon Oliver Wetmore (1752-1798), Chauncey Edwards Wetmore (1790-1872) and Rebecca Hubbard (1795-1885), Harriet Wetmore (1823-1901) and John Wesley Jones (1821-1899), Walter Brewster Jones (1856-1939) Annie Katharine Hall (1863-1930), Ruth Gleason Jones (1900-1989) and Jacob Heintz (1890-1957), Walter G. Now a proud member of THE ELDER WILLIAM BREWSTER SOCIETY.

I have done some research into some other branches of the Brewster lineage. If you are a descendent and are interested in your ancestors I may be able to assist you at finding source material. Feel free to contact me or just to say Hi if you are a long lost cousin.

I purchased a book on the Brewster Genealogy from 1500-1900 (about $200.00). It has many facts in it about different family members. Some of you who have emailed me about lineage I have been able to help with documentation others I have not sorry to say. The Genealogy is 1400 pages about many of the Brewster families and descendants. Unfortunately some of the lines do end abruptly because information about that line was probably not available to the author. If you are interested in Genealogical references from New England and elsewhere click on HIGGINSON BOOK CO

For those of you who would like a biography on William Brewster I have found that a wonderful book on his life is still in print. "Pilgrim: A Biography of William Brewster" by Mary Sherwood can be ordered on Amazon.com, just click on the link here.  This is a great book about the life of William and the world events which helped shape this compassionate man.

Another book of interest is "Mayflower" by Nathaniel Philbrick.  This is an awesome read.  Our ancestors were not always the most peaceable people.  The story is about the trip to America and the relationship between the settlers and the native Americans.  It also goes greatly into the King Phillips War which is passed over in American history.  I highly recommend this book, much research was done for it.  The link will take you to Amazon where you can purchase the book.

Family Search now is on line with their famous genealogical data click on the highlighted text.

Another source of interest is the Ellis Island Web Site.  I have spent hours looking at records from other relatives of mine.  Click on the highlighted text for a link to it.

Here is another link that has Brewster information that is helpful about Fear and Issac Allerton as well as William's parents etc.  http://xpda.com/family/default.htm?page=family-WilliamBrewsterAndMaudMann-fam558232018.htm

The Brewster Genealogy book is also available now on PDF for about $20.00 and it is an exact copy of the book by Emma C. Brewster Jones.  The company is GenealogyCDs.com and you can also find it on ebay sometimes.

I have created another web site on a different branch of my Family click to visit DESCENDANTS OF THOMAS (WETMORE) WHITMORE

Brewster Facts

I have had this site up for over 10 years now and this was the one of the most exciting emails I received,  After 10+ years and many thousands of email answers to your questions, this remains my favorite discovery.

I have had this site running for about 6 months now and have gotten numerous requests for information. The most interestingrequest came a couple of weeks ago and instead of rehashing it I will paste in the email request and reply

Rodney Recor wrote: Dear Michael: My name is Rebecca Recor, but my grandmother used to tell us of her ancestor that came to America on the Mayflower. He was one of four children that were smuggled out of England and sent to live with some of the
Pilgrim families. That first winter three of the children died, but the fourth lived and stayed with the Brewsters. His last name was Moore (or More). Do you know about him? Now that my grandmother is gone, I am getting interested in my family tree. Isn't that par? Thank you so much for any help that you can give me. Thanks again!!!

Mike wrote Rebecca, How nice it is to hear from you. It is interesting that you found my web site but you hit pay dirt. I cannot help with your genealogy but can fill you in on the More-Brewster relation. (From "Pilgrim")"It was also a common practice to assign poor orphan children to live with more prosperous families-not as adopted children, but as servants, who as they grew up would be expected to work for their keep. They would be indentured servants, and when their indentures ended they would be free agents. It has long been assumed that this was the reason why a little boy named Richard More, about 6 years old, and his brother or sister were "put to" the family of William and Mary Brewster, to live with them in the New World. Another More boy, Jasper was "put to" John and Catherine Carver, and little Ellen More was assigned to Edward Winslow and his young wife. An English genealogist Sir
Anthony Wagner, has discovered that the More children were not orphans, but had been abandoned by their prominent family. The discovery reveals an old scandal. Catherine More, 23, heiress to the estate of Larden, was married in 1610 to her third Cousin, 16 year old Samuel More, probably with the aim of keeping the estate in the family. Four children listed as the children of Samuel More were baptized at Shipton between 1612 and 1616. Three of the names are the same as those of the More children listed by Bradford as Mayflower passengers. The fourth was Mary. Bradford said a brother of Richard More sailed with the Brewsters, but it probably was 4 year old Mary. However Samuel More was apparently not the father of the children. In a declaration made to the Lord Chief Justice of England in or about 1620, More said that the children had been baptized as his before he realized "the common fame of the adulterous life of the said Katherine More with one Jacob Blakeway, a fellow
of mean parentage and condition." Furthermore he pointed out; there was "apparent likeness and resemblance of most of the said children in their visages and lineaments of their bodies to the said Blakeway." Catherine apparently rejected her children. Samuel More boarded them with a tenant of his father's, then arranged to deliver them to John Carver and Robert Cushman for transportation to America-the declaration said Virginia. They would be sufficiently kept and maintained with meat, drink, Apparel, lodging, and at the end of seven years they should have 50 acres of land apiece in the "country of Virginia." The story of the More children including the possibility that they were of royal descent, is told in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register vol. 124(1970) page 85 and in vol. 114 (1960) page 163 also in the Mayflower Quarterly vol. 38(1972) No. 1 page 5." Richard lived through the first winter and so did a brother living with the Carvers and a sister with the Winslows. Richard More continued to live with the Brewsters for a time. By 1637, he was the owner of 20 acres at nearby Eagle's Nest Point. The land is said to have been a gift from William Brewster his former ward. In November 1637 More sold his Duxburrow property, and the following January he was granted one-half acre of land in Salem. He became a mariner and eventually a ship's captain. This is from Bradfords list of passengers: Richard More, his brother dyed the first winter; but he is married and hath 4 or 5 children all living. Now how’s that! I hope this helps now all you have to do is trace your roots back, there may be a More (Moore) out there with the answers. Sincerely, Mike Heintz.

I can't promise results like this but I don't mind looking.
