Family were prominent landowners in upper Bryan County. Married in a double ceremony in the old Ebenezer Church in present Effingham County, Georgia with his brother Israel. (reference Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia, Vol. IV, p. 395)
Sylvanus Bird was fatally wounded Jan. 27, 1780, when Indians attacked Sir James Wright's Plantation at Ogeechee and killed Bird's sister Mrs. Hearn. This item was in the July 11, 1780 issue of The Royal Gazette, published in Savannah during the British occupation during the Revolutionary War. |
