Family owned and operated

As in most of Latin America there are restaurants of every style, culture and taste. My preference is to eat the type of food which is special to the area. In Taxco there is a wonderful selection, most of which I have not tried as we mostly eat at home. When we do eat out it is most often at Tia Cala, this is a specialty, family run Pozole kitchen tucked in the corner of the Zocalo near the Casa Borda. Simple, delicious & economical. Thursdays are typically Pozole days and these restuarants are packed! For breakfast we most often use the Hotel Santa Prisca or the Hotel Escondido. My suggestion is to try others also. A favorite for evenings is the Bar Paco ( now called Aciente)  overlooking the Zocalo, kitty corner from Tia Cala.  Of course most visitors will spend time in Mexico City where there are hundreds of traditional retaurants. One again I suggest exploring but here are some that I enjoy. Sanborns is of course a National chain and the "main" restaurant in the Historical district is deserving of  a visit, as is the Cafe De Tacuba. For a good meal and a wonderful view of the ever exciting Zocalo the Restaurant Terraza del Conquistador is perfect, it is a little difficult to find on the roof of the Jewellery centre at No 13 Plaza de la Constitucion but well worth the visit. As I mostly use the coach service at Tasquena I usually arrange my timing to have a meal or snack at cafe Toks, this is a modern cafe about 200 yards from the Terminus. Most local people know these locations and will be happy to direct you. Buen Provecho!

The Tarraza Restaurant has panoramic views of the whole Zocalo like this one of the Cathedral.
