Sharon Truax Fine Art announces Recent Paintings by
Barbara Poe Levee.
The exhibition opens Wednesday, September 13 and continues
through Saturday, October 7.
Barbara Poe Levee has been exhibiting her paintings for almost 60 years. Peggy Guggenheim included Leveeís work in two of her most controversial shows at her Art of This Century Gallery in New York City. These groundbreaking shows, Exhibition by 31 Women (1943) and The Women (1945) were both dedicated specifically to the female members of the avant-garde and significantly advanced the role of women in the modern art movement.
A historical perspective of the 1940ís avant-garde, Art of this Century: The Women was organized in 1997 at the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center, East Hampton, New York. The exhibition then traveled to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, Italy.
Barbara Poe Levee was born in New York City and was educated at the Tyler School of Fine Arts, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA and the Ecole Internationale, Geneva, Switzerland.
Her first solo show at Betty Parsonís Wakefield Bookstore Gallery was followed by her participation in the Surrealist Show, arranged by Marcel Duchamp and Andre Breton, French Relief Societies.
The upcoming exhibition of Recent Paintings is Barbara Poe Leveeís second solo show at Sharon Truax Fine Art. The 25 water colors are timeless meditations reflecting the artistís personal inner landscape.
Gallery days are Monday - Saturday. Please call for exact hours.
