2008 Virginia Wing Flight Scholarship Application

 

The 2008 Virginia Wing Flight Scholarships will provide flight training (powered and glider) for cadets utilizing CAP planes and CAP members who are flight instructors.  For 2008 we will award three powered flight and three glider scholarships.  These scholarships are open to Virginia Wing cadets who meet the following criteria:

1.  Be a current Virginia Wing cadet

2.  Be 16 years of age by December 31, 2007

3.  Have earned the Earhart Award by December 31, 2007

4.  Can pass the FAA physical in order to solo.

5.  Deadline for application is Feb 9, 2008.  Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.

6. Cadets over 18 must have completed CPPT.

7. For Powered Flight Scholarships, cadets must enroll in a qualified ground school within 30 days of being awarded the scholarship. Ground school must be completed at the cadet’s expense. Note that there are a number of ground school instructors within CAP that may be willing to assist. Proof of ground school enrollment and progress must be sent to the Director of Cadet Programs. Failure to enroll in ground school within 30 days of the award or failure to progress in ground school may result in revocation of the scholarship.

 

To Apply:

1.      Submit a resume (2 page maximum) that includes the following:

  • National, Regional, and Wing activities in which you participated
  • Unit activities in which you participated in during the last six months
  • Positions you held in your unit in the last year
  • The number of front-seat powered orientation rides you have received
  • Summary of academic record
  • Any other information that you feel is important

2.      Attach a statement (double spaced, less than 500 words) describing your CAP goals and career aspirations.

3.      Mail this form, resume, and statement to Major Mark Evans, 5003 Ridgewood Drive, Danville VA 24540.

4.      Please request two letters of recommendation be submitted on your behalf (one must be from your unit commander or deputy commander for cadets).  They can be sent directly Major Evans
