Photographing thru a pinhole takes image making to a simpler form. Cameras can be made from things as simple as a cardboard
box, or a precision high end digital camera body. The common link is in the non use of any glass optics to focus the incoming
light. Instead, light enters the camera thru a hole drilled in a thin sheet of metal or thru a piece of black ortho film
with a hole printed on it.
My choice for the following images was a modified old Agfa Isola 6x6 camera. I removed the lens and replaced it with a
Pinhole Sieve printed on ortho film and optimized for it's 75mm focal length. By pushing Ilford Delta 3200 1 stop I can hand
hold the camera for pictures. The grain of this film is very evident when pushed and adds to the softness of the pinhole images.
Photopolymer plates were made by laminating Dupont's Imagon film to roofing copper. Digital positive transparencies output
from Photoshop and a UV light source were used to expose the plates. These plates were then hand wiped with intaglio ink and
then ran through a press with dampened paper.
The resulting images have a soft charcoal drawing like quality.
