The
1972/73
Mercury
Montego GT
Registry

This 1973 Montego GT is currently owned by Dennis Zimmerman
of Duluth, Minnesota. He purchased the car in late 2000.
The car has a 351 2V engine, 2.75:1 open rear axle, and
C-4 automatic transmission. The car was originally painted
bright red with a black bucket seat interior.

The previous owner was Ian Glyn-Jones of Canada.
Ian's parents purchased this car new in 1973 and kept it until 1979,
when they traded it in. Ian tracked it down four years later, and bought
it back. This Montego under-went a frame-off restoration in 1988 and had
been in storage since 1996. Ian modified the original engine and
transmission and has added the very rare factory ram-air option.
The pictures above were taken following that 1988 restoration.

These are two photos of the car after Dennis purchased it and got it back home.

These six photos are of the car after Dennis started restoring it in 2001.

Here is the completed project. Dennis decided to give the car a David Pearson-Wood Brothers paint scheme based on the car they ran in Nascar during the '74 and '75 race seasons. The car came out very nice and I am sure Dennis will have a lot of fun with it.

This is how the car looks now with the decals. Dennis says that the "competition proven" decals on the hood are actual vintage decals he recieved from Holman-Moody after he told them about this project. The "Winston Race Car" stickers on the doors are vintage from the Wood Brothers. Doug Schellinger, President of the AeroWarriors.com club sent to him the two extras that he had. Doug had done a '74 Montego like this several years ago, and had gotten four of those stickers from the Wood Brothers. The Union and Purolator Contingency stickers had to be custom made as they were no longer available.
