A Snowflake Fell
(for Kate)
A snowflake fell while the sun was shining
Gentle drift across verdant mountains
Whispery floating above great plains
A sparkle in the eye of the blue Pacific
It settled there and merged
Hopes and dreams, smiles and kindness
The snowflake gave itself over to the moment
Currents swirled, in the air and on the sea
A dolphin chortled, the snowflake laughed
It smiled into the gentle humpback countenance
Eternal sunshine, aged sea, elemental
Joyous, eternal, the snowflake transformed
Ashes, air, water, a cycle born
Time wrought miracle, nature's design
One day... some day, as time outlasts the stars
Water to sky, cloud's embrace
The water that once was snowflake
Will fall again, as gentle rain
