Here's an article on a new pill that can limit a woman's period. Personally, I think the idea of no cycle to be unnatural and unappealing, but that's just me. Read and learn.

Here's news about the historic exchange between UC Berkeley and Cuban Libraries.

"Libraries at the University of California, Berkeley and Cuba are building a unique archive on the troubled history between Cuba and the United States, striving to give scholars access to materials made difficult to circulate during four decades of a U.S. embargo's trade restrictions."

It's pretty hot here! But beautiful. BEAUTIFUL!!

The bells of Berkeley.

Thanks to a tip from my friend Holly Golightly, I just heard an audio clip of local Minneapolis band 12RODS. Great stuff! They are playing tonight for the City Pages 21st Anniversary Party. Have fun tonight, Holly!

I am totally envious of a certain group of Cal students that will be discovering Monteverdi's "L'Orfeo" for the first time. It's an incredible piece of music. The Gardiner recording is the best one, too, IMHO.

Earlier I mentioned that this society encourages us to live beyond our means. That includes credit cards. Working at a public university, I see plenty of credit card companies with tables on campus, waiting to get students to use their cards. I think it's terrible! It really does encourage students to get into debt early. Senator Dunn introduced SB 796, where "lawmakers passed a bill in the last days of the legislative session that asks officials at public and private colleges to re-examine their policies on how credit card companies solicit on campus". Here is an article on the bill, and here is the language of the bill. I hope Gov. Davis seriously considers this and passes it.

Once again Tom Tomorrow hits it right on.

A very important event happened this month: I paid off the loan I took out to buy my harpsichord. And I did it all by myself. I am no longer in debt to Bank of America and the harpsichord is mine! One more step toward being debt free, a great goal in this society that encourages us to live beyond our means. This feels good!

I'm reminded this morning about how great this radio show is - To The Best of Our Knowledge. Here in the SF Bay Area, it plays on KALW on Sunday mornings. It's a terrific show, hosted by Jim Fleming, that covers a variety of topics. Take a listen! Wisconsin Public Radio in the beautiful midwest, produces it.

Last night I saw a performance of Cannibals at High Tea, an improv group at College of Marin. They are AWESOME!!!! Very, very talented group. I'm so impressed. Check them out.
