These were taken during an electrical
power-out, a rupture of routine we'll no doubt experience more frequently
in the future. We lit a drawerful of candles, fished out our 35 millimeter
camera, and left the shutter open on slow-speed film to see what we could
capture, or rather, to see what sorts of spirits we could conjure, fiddling
under the roof with an old violin, conductor of invisible vibrations.

For a dubious moment the lights flickered on. But that
didn't last long, and the fiddler
returned from whence she came--to the shadows of a
film noir.
