Black-Out

These were taken during an electrical power-out, a rupture of routine we'll no doubt experience more frequently in the future. We lit a drawerful of candles, fished out our 35 millimeter camera, and left the shutter open on slow-speed film to see what we could capture, or rather, to see what sorts of spirits we could conjure, fiddling under the roof with an old violin, conductor of invisible vibrations.

For a dubious moment the lights flickered on. But that didn't last long, and the fiddler
returned from whence she came--to the shadows of a film noir.
