There are 2 types of racing offered for the larger breed sighthounds...LGRA which is straight line sprinting, and NOTRA which is oval track racing. Until only a couple of years ago, the straight line sprinting was only available to whippets through NAWRA (North American Whippet Racing Association).

What is LGRA ?

LGRA is the Large Gazehound Racing Association. LGRA is straight line sprint racing and it has been in existence for the past 4-5 years. The dogs run a distance of 200 yards, 3 times. The lure is a jack-a-lure that has a squeaker in it. All dogs must be muzzled, however LGRA does not require all dogs be boxed. Boxing, however, is preferred and allows the dogs a more equal start.

What is NOTRA ?
