Afghans van Brabant

Welcome!

Please allow me to introduce ourselves...we are Mary, Peter and Kirsten Voss and we live in Northern California with our Afghan Hounds, horses and birds.

We have been involved in Afghan Hounds since 1989. Our dogs are bred to preserve a very old bloodline known as "van de Oranje Manege" (a.k.a. VDOM). This bloodline goes back within only a few generations, to the original dogs from Afghanistan. Functionality, intelligence and stable temperament play a very important role in our breeding program.

Our dogs are raised on Natural-Rearing Diets. Natural-Rearing diets are based on fresh foods: raw meat, raw tripe, raw bones, vegetables, herbs, etc. The idea here is to reproduce the way a dog would eat if it were in a wild, natural state. We have found this to be a great savings in vet bills...we rarely have to go because our dogs are so healthy! At the moment, we have one dog that is over 17 years old and a couple of others over 13...they are all in very good health.

Our dogs are also allowed quite a bit of freedom...they get to run and exercise in a 5 acre pasture. They live together as a pack without any problems. When conditioning for racing events, they are walked a couple of miles per day. They ALL excel in performance events such as coursing (both lure and open field), straight line sprint racing and oval track racing. In spite of that, there is nothing they love more than being a "couch potato"!

We have also been involved in Afghan Hound Rescue...and wild horse rescue. Occasionally, we still do help in Afghan Hound rescue and notices for local dogs needing adoption can be found on our "What's New" page.

We hope you enjoy your visit with us and please don't forget to sign our Guest Book on our "Contact Us" page

Best regards,
Mary Voss
