The Saint (97)

4/8/97

I was expecting a lot worse. Val Kilmer (who may be a perfectionist, or may be a huge asshole) plays a thief who can change his appearance almost at will. He's really good at his profession and he gets to use neat gadgets. Shue is a brilliant scientist who has discovered the secret to cold fusion. It becomes Kilmer's job to steal the formula from Shue, but surprise!, they fall in love. I think Kilmer's a fine actor and Shue was strong as well. The story, about the overthrow of the Russian president by a rich utility bad guy was kinda stupid. It was loud, and their was music blaring all the time and the bad guys could drive around destitute Moscow in a Range Rover carrying automatic weapons. A Macintosh Powerbook is in all the scenes where he's communicating with the bad guys or his money man. They apparently made up some new interface that looked bitchin. Go to a matinee.
