Lunes de Fiel [Bitter Moon] (92)

3/16/97

This was completely forgettable. Cute-as-a-button Hugh Grant (before the blowjob) and his wife Kristin Scott Thomas (before the good hair) are on a cruise on their way to India to try to save their marriage. On board they meet a young attractive French woman and her husband, the wheelchair-bound Peter Coyote. During successive hour long sessions, Coyote explains to Grant in incredibly intimate detail, the story of his relationship with the beautiful Mimi. It is exciting at first as the man tells of his infatuation with this mysterious woman. It doesn't take long for the story to go to places you never expected. Places you never wanted it to go. Thomas is on screen for approximately 3 minutes, which in her mind, must have been 3 minutes too long. Grant can only pull of the bumbling uptight Englishman routine so often and Coyote is as serious as he can be while speaking incredible dialogue which is either shockingly poetic, or utterly hilarious.
