pastoral painting framed in lustrous walnut (Jaal Jeraya)
A finely detailed painting displays a lone white haired Elven woman standing in a field of multi-colored wild flowers. Careful strokes have captured a tender expression in her soft blue eyes as she gazes down at a strand of intricately carved chrysoprase prayer beads strung on a chain of pure white gold cradled in one hand. A small brass placard is attached to the lower edge of the painting.
A small brass placard reads:
"High Priestess Tallis"
Altars And Other Things:
Prayer for the dead
A small granite gravestone reads:
Jinson Bracenose II
352-363
Beloved son of Merta and Jinson
May Hodierna shelter you,
Damaris guard you, and
Berengaria light your path along the Starry Road.
shaalwood altar
[Crossing Escape Tunnels, Truffenyi's Way]
A crude alcove has been hacked out of the surrounding stone, creating just enough space to shelter a little shaal wood altar. Sage leaves and a few sticks of incense fill an engraved copper bowl placed at its center. A single pure white taper casts diffuse light over the modest offering, the flame's soft illumination throwing the ridged granite walls into sharp relief.
Obvious exits: north, south.
You tap a shaalwood altar.
look altar -- No elaborate temple altar this, but rather a simple piece of wood that has been carved and left unembellished save a light coat of oil.
On the shaalwood altar you see an engraved copper bowl.
look bowl -- The warm gleam of copper contrasts with the silvery hue of dried sage leaves that have been piled in this bowl. Long sticks of incense lie atop the sage, the whole making up a simple offering to the gods -- perhaps in hope of assuring safe passage through these tunnels.
Altar to the Dark Gods, Crossings Temple grounds
[Thorny Brambles, Wedding Hollow]
The bramble passage widens here, creating a hollow in this thorny thicket. Black drapes of silk and velvet have been strung from the wooden archway overhead that supports the wild vegetation, marking some sort of dark celebration. At the southern edge of the bramble thicket, a glassy obsidian altar rises from the surrounding moss-carpeted byre. Various statues of hideous-looking beasts line the living walls to the east and west, glowering malevolently at any who may enter.
Obvious exits: north.
look stat -- Chiseled black basalt statues of a variety of beasts skirt the bramble hedges to either side. To your right are a raccoon, weasel, centaur, viper, shark, and heron. To your left you notice a goshawk, adder, shrew, shrike, black widow, and vulture. Each statue has been cut in detail, with unique stylized expressions glowering toward every corner of this shrine. The only beast that is absent from this malevolent menagerie is the coyote of Be'ort.
look altar -- Faint chiselwork slithers over the smooth, glassy surface of the altar -- artistic renderings of twelve of the thirteen dark aspects as they relate to marriage. A crushed black velvet cloth stitched in silver thread with an eternity circle is draped from the front, concealing the basalt base that holds the obsidian altar aloft.
Memorial Shrine, Crossings Temple Ground
[Memorial Shrine]
A large stone pillar rises in the center of this shrine, surrounded by a ring of sooty marble rubble, the walls of some grand structure of yore. Delicate colored tiles have been inset upon the pillar in a valiant restoration of a destroyed mosaic, possibly belonging to a place of worship in days past. You also see a translucent crystalline case and a great soot-covered bell.
Obvious paths: out.
look pillar -- Thousands of brightly colored tiles combine to show the story of the creation of the Universe, symbolically depicting the arguments and decisions of the Gods as they fashioned the worlds. Set about the periphery are representations of the various ways of worshipping the Gods. Central to the mosaic is the fountain in the forecourt of the former Temple. Its waters well out in all directions as the rivers of Life flow throughout all the Planes of existence. A large silver plaque gleams beneath the mosaic.
A large silver plaque reads:
"In memory of the Fall of the Temple, may those lost never be forgotten."
[Bosque Deriel, Hermit's Shacks]
Here on the route between the sacred sites of the Observatory and the Faery Ring is a semi-circular clearing. At its center stands a hut made of lashed branches, roofed with broad leaves. A certain sect of Elven clerics, who are renowned for their devotion to contemplation, are wont to retire into the solitudes of the woods and groves hereabouts. They are not, however, renowned for their hospitality.
[Bosque Deriel, Burial Ground]
You come upon an Elven burial ground in the shade of sacred groves. The graves are almost impossible to distinguish from the surrounding forest growth, save for a slight elevation, greener cover, and saplings planted at their heads to commemorate the departed soul. The forest nomads also come here, and leave their dead in the trees, to be stripped by scavenger birds.
[Dragon's Breath Forest, A Dark Clearing]
A ring of dark walnut trees stands in ancient vigil over this small clearing, its austere presence contributing to the disquieting silence that seems palpable in this place. The surrounding shadows bring an odd sense of comfort, as every glimmer of light reflected by a polished stone at the locus of the ring breeds the image of a predator lying in wait.
Obvious paths: east.
look stone -- The surface of this dark stone, polished to a deep luster, is etched around the circumference with images of Prydaen warriors hunting and stalking their prey. At the center of the stone, three markings have been carved with deliberate care, their significance unknown to you.
{{I've been told this has something to do with barbs, but has a nice sacred feel to it anyway so it's staying}}
Aesry Library, 2nd floor, north arch
[Ker'Leor, Zindalyi Lyba]
A rough chunk of stone rises from the floor as though it grew from the mountains themselves. Closer inspection reveals careful chiseling and subtle carving to create a flat-topped altar. This part of the tunnel is hushed, the stone floor clean, the walls spotless, but thrums with power. Someone -- or something -- keeps the altar in good repair. Small bits of bone and feathers are arranged behind the altar, holding meaning known only to those who laid them there.
Obvious exits: southeast, southwest.
Amorphous shapes with hollow eyes flit along the sides of the squarish altar. On the side nearest the back wall is carved a skeletally thin figure wearing a cloak with an upraised staff in its right hand.
Behind the stone altar you see some torn feathers and some bits of bone.
look feather behind altar -- Dark feathers, possibly from a raven or crow, lie in a random-seeming pattern within the semicircle of bones surrounding the far side of the altar. Only the smallest feathers are whole, the others torn and laid carefully on the floor.
look bone behind altar -- Rat femurs, bird wings, frog skulls, and other larger chips of bones rest in a semicircle behind the altar, the ends almost touching the stone.
A cold voice behind you muses, "Eylhaar, Urrem'tier, Aldauth, what are these to me? This place is mine." Soft laughter fades away before you can spin around.
Misenor Abbey
This simple tapestry seems out of place. As if just mounted on the wall by its creator, the black silk bears not a sign of dust or age, and its silvery threads form words that reflect brilliantly the dimmest of light.
read tapestry:
The letters seem to shift and shimmer as you read the ancient text.

[The Gash, Northern Rim]
A narrow track widens to meet a barren and craggy ledge. Named 'The Gash' because it looks as though the World Dragon itself had dragged a claw through the ground leaving a deep wound, the canyon towards the south is both deep and sheer. An icy wind upwells from The Gash and whispers in your ear before it races off into the distance.
a white ash framed painting entitled: "Resurrection"
Mottled earth tones contrasted with rich shades of painted blues and greens portray an elderly Human Cleric with his head bowed, kneeling over the prone body of a fallen hunter. His gnarled hands gently rest on the hunter's head. Seated nearby and tenderly touching the injuries of the corpse, an Elothean Empath sits, her torso marred with fresh cuts and her eyes closed in pain. A soft radiant golden light encircles the cleric.
an ebony framed painting entitled: "Restoration - Warrior's Shrine"
A myriad of colorful oils depicts representatives of every known race surrounding a defiled steel altar made from broken swords. An Empath touching the altar, is flanked by two Clerics holding a silver vial and glowing favor orb respectively. A Halfling Cleric kneels in the foreground, a bottle of holy oil and a burnt piece of incense on the floor beside her. Nearby, a Human Paladin holds a sword, his free hand red with blood, while an Elven Bard sits off to the side scribing unto a scroll.
[Tethloren, Tidepool]
Black craggy rock juts upwards to form low barriers to break the waves and hollows to collect pools of water that remain even at low tide. The clean salty water sparkles against the dark wet basalt flecked with foam. Rhythmic waves create the whispering shush long associated with Peri'el's song of sleep to still the beast of the World Dragon itself.
A Rose-pommeled Steel Misericorde from Muspar'i
Traditionally used to grant the gods' mercy to a fallen warrior, now used as a widow's blade
Calabria looks up from her work with a smile and says, "Nowdaysss it'sss a lady'sss knife, but in the daysss before the godsss gave their favor ssso freely, thisss blade was usssed on the field of battle to give the godsss mercy to a comrade too badly wounded to sssurvive the trek to a healer. My catalog has more information, on page 1. If you're interested, the cost would be 1600 lirums."
[Muspar'i, Sh'kial's Square]
Two great golden dragons, one with a foreleg raised as if in judgement over a petitioner, the other rearing up in protection over those who stand before it, mark the break in the long golden-coiled fence surrounding the Dragon Temple. Beyond the tall wrought-iron fence between them, glimpses of the temple itself can just barely be seen.
Obvious paths: north, west.
look dragon -- Rearing high over the temple approach, the dragons regard passersby with gleaming ruby eyes. While their figures are separate, they seem to form one cohesive assymetrical statue, their heads tilted slightly inward such that both sets of eyes focus on a specific point in front of the gate.
[World Dragon Temple]
Columns of purple quartz rise stoically toward the vaulted ceiling high above, supporting the rough-hewn obsidian walls of the Temple. Embroidered gold carpeting marks a clear path beneath them, receding deeper into the shadowy confines of the structure. Wooden torches rest within iron sconces set high upon the columns, casting a dim, flickering light upon the area. You also see the Temple Gates.
Obvious exits: south.
Deep within the column of quartz pulses a faint glow, occasionally sending tendrils of light radiating throughout the crystalline matrix.
Delicate embroidery edges the thick damask material, intertwining together in an elaborate scrollwork pattern.
[World Dragon Temple]
Darkness clings to the fringes of this narrow corridor, cloaking in inky blackness that which lies beyond. Barely discernible within the shadows are two passages branching off in opposite directions, their outlines made visible by the glowing coals of a brushed silver brazier that stands beneath a wall mural.
Obvious exits: north, southeast, southwest.
look mural -- In the distance a mountain looms, casting its shadow over the land. Thousands of worshippers have gathered at its base, their eyes cast upwards -- focused upon the lone figure standing atop the pinnacle.
You step southwest, pulling the heavy curtain across the entrance aside and quickly pass through.
[World Dragon Temple, Main Chamber]
Polished obsidian walls supported by columns of purple quartz encircle the vast chamber where an overbearing stillness permeates the air. Rays of light filtering through the large stained glass dome high above bathe the massive altar in a profusion of refracted colors, adding to the serenity. Suspended beneath the circular balcony winding its way around the upper reaches of the chamber hangs a large tapestry.
Obvious exits: northeast, east, west, northwest.
You reach out and touch a massive obsidian altar carved to resemble the World Dragon.
look altar -- Towering over the chamber, the massive obsidian altar has been carved into the likeness of the World Dragon. It sits with its great wings unfurled and head bent low, faceted ruby eyes gazing forward, carefully studying all those who stand before it.
look tapestry -- Stitched upon the silken material is the ominous image of an enormous black dragon with its wings outstretched, perching atop a blue-green globe.
[World Dragon Temple]
Rising up through the center of the chamber spirals a wrought iron staircase, bordered by two large tables set to either side nearby. Ironwood bookshelves stand against the smooth obsidian walls, like solemn guards at their posts. Several tapestries hang within the gaps between them, displaying distinctively different images.
Obvious exits: southeast.
look tapestry -- All manner of S'Kra Mur have gathered in a large circle around a robed figure standing alone in the center, his head lowered in prayer. A serene sense of calm seems to radiate outwards, the effect clearly apparent upon those nearest the robed figure.
look other tapestry -- Dressed for battle, thousands of S'Kra Mur warriors have gathered before a robed figure standing upon a large dais. Mixed expressions of anger and hatred are plainly visible upon their faces, and a dark, ominous shadow seems to hover over them all.
look third tapestry -- A massive black dragon rages across a celestial sky, burning everything it passes with huge gouts of fire. Thirteen figures stand poised together, waiting to repulse the wyrm's advance upon the blue-green planet behind them.
[World Dragon Temple]
Wooden racks line the walls of this circular chamber, filled with an assortment of scrolls. Upon the domed ceiling is a masterfully rendered fresco, painted long ago by some unknown artist. There is no moisture present in the air, but a strong, musty odor lingers throughout the area. You also see a wrought iron staircase.
Obvious exits: none.
look fresco -- Faded and flaking from the passage of time, the fresco depicts the accumulation and conquest of lands during the Dragon Priest Empire, encompassing all the provinces of Therengia, Zoluren, Ilithi, and the majority of Qi.
[Dark Thicket, Shrouded Clearing]
The trees form a loose horseshoe around this dark green clearing, the heavy foliage from the various oaks and ash that grow here weaving a tangled canopy and creating a deep gloom which falls like a shroud over everything. Pushed up against the very center of the "shoe" is a statue of a woman holding a basin in her hands. A faint forest trail leads off from where the grove opens up, slicing neatly through a second growth of trees before vanishing.
Obvious paths: none.
look statue -- The Huntress stands, tall and proud, in a life-like statue that is rendered in pure black iron. Clenched in her upraised hands is a silver basin. There is something enscribed along the statue's base.
There appears to be something written on it.
A statue reads:
All vengeance begins and ends with me.
Dragon Shrine, over the white bridge on the STR near Steel Claw Clan
A large flat rock reads:
As above, the fourth moon, so below asleep in the earth.
[Shrine to the Dragon, Central Chamber]
This chamber is carved directly into the stone of the caverns. The walls are a dark green jade, encircling a stained altar that rests in the very center. Statues, shattered and smashed by time and angry mortal hands alike, stand forever frozen in broken dances. Elegant brass sconces still flicker with mystic lights, dim but bright enough to illuminate the area. You also see some twisted stone stairs, a stained jade altar, and some tattered silk tapestries.
Obvious exits: none.
look altar -- An altar of jade rises from the floor. A depression carved into it holds blackened, fetid water. Dried blood stains the surface, trickles of red-brown running down the sides. There appears to be something written on it.
A stained jade altar reads:
An inscription in Eth'ral'khh is engraved into the stone. The very words themselves shimmer before your eyes, their meaning burnt into your mind. "We sing in tribute unending to the One, the Truth, Dragon of the World hatched from the great Sky-Egg. Bringer of Life we sing praises to Thee, One who is All, grant us Thy Blessing."
look statue -- Fluid and graceful forms of S'kra and Dragons both lie shattered and broken in a mass of pieces on the floor.
There appears to be something written on it.
Some shattered jade statues reads:
In worn Eth'ral'khh you make out the following, "In Praise, we sing. . .to the Dragon! Master of All, Lord of. . .Being."
look sconce - The sconces are cast bronze, now tarnished from ages come and gone, molded into the forms of intertwining S'kra Mur and Dragons.
look tapestries -- Torn and tattered, the faded silk depicts visions of ancient revalry. S'kra men and women holding hands are dancing madly around a large sculpture of the World Dragon. The silken cloth flutters slightly, as if touched by a draft from behind.
climb stairs
[Jade Cavern, Vestibule]
Elaborate stone carvings arch overhead, twisting into fascinating shapes. Tall columns crafted from translucent jade flank the walls that lead further west into the heart of the caverns. You also see some twisted stone stairs.
Obvious paths: west.
look carvings -- The carvings before the stairs depict a sky with four moons. The long, sinuous body of a serpent is curling around the fourth.
[Jade Cavern, Dark Passage]
The walls are gouged and scratched, chunks of rock ripped from the once-polished and painted murals. Fragments of tile lie shattered on the floor, crunching at the lightest touch.
Obvious exits: east, west.
look mural -- The mural appears to portray the image of a large dragon curling around a sphere. Chunks of paint and tile have been broken off or smeared.
[Jade Cavern, Small Opening]
Luminescent walls of rough green jade curve around you, the cupped, smooth hands of the earth. A path chisled into the stone floor leads east.
Obvious exits: east.
Immortals Victory Over The World Dragon Altar, Steel Claw Clan
[Steelclaw Clan, Chapel]
Leaded glass windows fill the eastern wall, allowing the first light of day to illuminate the intricate mosaic that covers the chapel floor from wall to wall. At each of the other three cardinal points an altar stands - the southern one formed of living wood, the northern of a roughly hewn slab of basalt and the western carved from bone. Dozens of candles, guttering nubs and brightly burning pillars, adorn each altar yet the surfaces and facings are clean, without wax drip or scorch mark.
Obvious exits: out.
You glance at a carved bone altar.
look bone altar -- Every surface carved, etched or inlaid, the altar is a masterpiece of grisly beauty. Graceful centaurs, rendered in perfect thumb-high detail, gallop in a twisting line across bleached femurs, a sprawling scrimshaw detailing the Immortal's victory over the World Dragon decorates a skull. Clacking gently, finger bones swing along the front edge of the altar, hung with golden strands of wire.
World Dragon Altar, Dragon Priest area in Ilithi
Misenseor Abbey, Within the Copse on the NTR
The altar has been cut from a single block of deepest black obsidian and is devoid of ornamentation. Standing in resolute silence, bearing witness to many unspeakable acts, the altar shall never divulge its secrets except to the darkest of heart and those who are chosen to serve.
[Temple of Darkness, Western Alcove]
A stone carving rises up out of the smooth face of the wall at the end of this alcove like some strange wave breaking the surface of a frozen obsidian waterfall. The only illumination is the light coming from the main hall to the east, which is itself only fitful at best.
Obvious exits: east.
look carv -- Cheeks like rounded apples, half-slitted eyes, and pursed lips -- the carving should have been of a smiling Fae, but somewhere the artist's chisel went awry. You can't quite put your finger on it, but there is definitely something sinister about the carving. Something that makes you want to stay as far away from it as possible.
[Catherine's Court, East Wing]
A large crystal chandelier hanging above the rounded terminus of the hallway spots the dull stone walls with a million tiny rainbows of refracted light. The crystal prisms tinkle musically with drafts of air that sneak through the frame of a carved oak door leading out to the cloister gardens. The colored glass tympanum glows with the image of Saint Ilysia. You also see a sturdy metal door.
Obvious exits: south.
look tymp -- The colored glass panes of the curved glass window above the doorway seems to attract even the dim light of moonless nights and glows brightly in the noonday sun. Saint Ilysia, the fabled Elven cleric of Illithi and patron of gardens, tends to the roots of a massive rosebush.

FOSTRAMOR
For those who are unfamiliar with the legends surrounding Fostramor, I'll recount some of the highlights here.
Fostramor means The Great Peace and it is both a place and a reward. Legend has it that to get to Fostramor you must pass through Fostra's Haven. No one knows where Fostra's Haven is. However, it is part of the legend that if a mortal ever finds Fostramor, they will become immortal and gain complete wisdom. Whether this place is real or not, it has fired the imagination of adventurers for centuries. It seems to be entwined with each of the races.
For the elves, Foster Haven is where the old elves traveled at the end of their lives in the days when elves dominated our world.
For the Humans, it's Fostra's Gate and is the final stop on the Starry Road after death.
For Gor'Togs, it's Fostra's Stronghold and is the ultimate place of protection.
For the Eloth, it's Fostra's Haven and they believe their souls travel over the waters after they die to Fostramor and ultimate wisdom.
For the Halfling, it's Fostra's Inn, where all are free and merry forever.
For the Skra Mur, it's Fostra's Nest and is a place where the Skra return to childhood and the egg to be reborn into a perfect life.
For the Dwarf, it's Fostra's Mountain, where only the purest minerals are mined. This is a place in this world for the Dwarf and none of their legends indicate that Fostra's Mountain is found beyond life.
For all, though, Fostra's Haven (the most commonly used term for all races) is an ideal place. Even if it once existed, its been so idealized, the current legends about it cant be accurate.

The Wheel Song - A Traditional Prydaen Song
Demrris told us before he left
A promise of a life beyond our deaths.
The Great Old One must have known
That the world is too wide for one life alone.
So though this soul goes to Tenemlor
Soon it shall return to us once more,
Passing from her blessed home,
Back to the plains with us it will roam.
And wander the forests and drink down the wind
And sing this song with us again.
And when the wheel has turned once more,
It will hear this song, as it did before.
Hear us, hear us, hurry along,
Take your rest, but don't stay long.
For leaves fall to ground and nourish the tree
The leaves come back, and so shall we!
You end the song with a deep vibrato hum.
