General:
Kertigen - Patron of craft, metal work, precious gems, bestower of wealth and prosperity; venerated by traders, money changers, petty bourgeois and tradesmen such as jewelers and blacksmiths; his favor is invoked in protecting possessions against theft, weapons and armor against damage, etc. Kertigen's favorite workers are the leprechauns, who guard his treasures with jealous zeal. The chief deity of Dwarves, his emblem is the raven.
Divyaush - Kertigen's positive side, Divyaush is a merry bearded man with twinkling blue eyes. He grants enormous good favor, money, and gifts, and will sometimes send out his personal assistants -- the welkin -- to help out needy craftsmen. He is beloved by children, who often leave him offerings of sweets and cream at a special Midwinter festival. Divyaush is paternal and kind, and will help to guide a crafter who has erred by pointing out -- but not fixing -- his mistakes. His emblem is a welkin.
Zachriedek - Kertigen's negative side, Zachriedek, is nasty and cruel. He is the weakness in the wagon's axle that causes it to snap in the rain, the crack in the sword that breaks in the heat of battle, the poor conditions that cause a merchant's stock to sour. If he is feeling particularly nasty, he will send out his favored pets, the gremlins, to plague a craftsman. His emblem is the raccoon.

look statue -- There is no mistaking that this mighty image is Kertigen, bestower of wealth and prosperity. Thick robes encompass his muscular figure, and his fingers are adorned with jewelled rings. A great curved scimitar rests at his hip, a raven is perched at his elbow. Patron of metal work, of crafting and precious gems, Kertigen's favor is also invoked against theft or damage of possessions. Though his countenance is mild, his eyes seem alive as his gaze appears to follow you wherever you walk.

[Temple of Darkness, Zachriedek's Alcove]
The sour smell of vinegar and the musty odor of molding bread fill the air of this small and stuffy alcove. A glowering, hunched-over relief of Zachriedek pops out of the wall furthest from the hall, his features rough from an unkind artist's chisel. Fine cracks seam his face and body, as if it were about to crumble.

Wyvern Mountain, Cavern
Light passes through cracks in the roof of the cavern to reflect silently off the piles of gems and jewelry which lie heaped before a finely-crafted statue of a Dwarven man. Golden leprechauns scamper over the piles of treasure, the natural guardians of such a booty. An onyx raven seems to watch the leprechaun's antics with an expression of detached amusement. You also see a white arch, a low opening, and a black arch.
look statue -- Offerings from traders and craftsmen alike have been placed beneath the benevolent gaze of Kertigen, god of crafting and prosperity, in hopes of gaining his blessing.
A white arch reads:
May Kertigan send Divyaush to guide my work.
Your vision blurs as you pass through the arch, and you see...
A bearded man with twinkling blue eyes beams approvingly at you as you pass by. Welkins caper by his side, fixing children's toys.
A black arch reads:
May Kertigan protect me from Zachriedek's mischief.
Your vision blurs as you pass through the arch, and you see...
Gremlins cackle as a dark-bearded dwarf looks furtively over his shoulder before sawing at the axle of a wagon. Nearby, a raccoon gazes at you, its black masked eyes making a note of your face.

Offering Slab to Kertigen, Near Crocodiles
[North Road, Plains]
A roughly carved wooden figure stands upon a polished sandstone slab in the middle of the road, surrounded by piles of drying flowers, food, and other offerings. As you pass by, a family of ravens cackles at you from the branches of an ancient thorn tree.
The slab is covered with offerings left for the god Kertigen by passing traders hoping to recieve a bit of good fortune on their journeys. Strange runes are carved in the sandstone, forming a circular pattern around the base of the wooden statue resting on its smooth surface.
The figure is carved into the likeness of a broad, bearded man stretching his arms out to you in greeting. His smiling visage gazes down upon the pile of offerings left by travellers on the stones at his feet.

a satinwood framed painting entitled: "Kertigen's Blessing"
Somber shades of sepia and burnt sienna portray a Dwarven Cleric with a long curly dark brown beard and a droopy mustache. He is holding a huge blood-red Dwarven war hammer that is seemingly engulfed by a bright golden fire. A small clear jar partially filled with pale yellow holy oil lays at his feet.
Songs:
Damaris' Kiss - By: Silvyrfrost
Clever Meraud in his tall tower
Kept Hodierna locked in flower-strewn bower
Weeping she was, alone and ashamed
Wound up in twisting,
and twisting
Stone chains.
Kertigen stalked the halls of his home
Empty of laughter, lightless and alone
In siege were his men, his creatures, his ravens
Besieging the tower,
the tower,
With all his creations.
For two years they'd fought on trampled ground
For two years Meraud had beaten them down
His prisoner kept as his magic met the attack
With only Kertigen's words
his word
Sending them back.
And rapidly the war was closing too tight
And Kertigen it seemed must lose the fight
But now in the absence of the day's brilliant light
The Lord of Smiths called
he called
The bleak Lord of Night.
Nightclad he enters, and draws very near
Softly he speaks, saying, 'You called me here.
'To partake in a war that is not worth the fight.
'Yet you are in right,
'Our brother is not.
'And yes I will end it, for the right price.'
Kertigen glowers, but agrees for his woes
But the price he requires, Damaris does not disclose
Nodding he slips from the raven Lord's home
And turning he ventures
He ventures
Alone.
Through Kertigen's men he passes like a breeze
And approaches the tower with a swift, silent ease
Spreading his hands he melds with the stars
And drops sands of sleep
of dreams
On Meraud's creatures of war.
Now the tower is silent, for the golems have stopped
The warfield is empty, for his elementals have dropped
The engines that spewed fire, trouble no more
And now Damaris slips
he slips
Through Meraud's study door.
Meraud frowns in anger when he sees his brother's form
His rage gathers round him like a winter's chill storm
And brings down the lightning on Damaris' smiling face
Only to find
To scream at!
An illusion in the bleak god's place.
Damaris crept to the bower whilst his brother fought a shadow
And released Hodierna from her chains amidst the storm's glow
With a cry of joy she leapt from that place
Changing
and Changing
To a unicorn, home swiftly raced.
And back with her husband who drew her in his arms
And promised her no more would she come to harm
Till Damaris approached and reminded in voice soft
Of the bargain
that freed
Hodierna from Meraud's loft.
Damaris smiled as Kertigen clenched his fists
As the dark-eyed god took Hodierna by the wrist
'Do not take her!' said the raven Lord wise
But Damaris just laughed
And laughed
At his cries.
'This I must tell you.' (Damaris closer draws.)
'Your war I thought useless till your lady I saw.'
And kneeling he gazed at the lady many wished to command
And smiling he took her
by the wrist...
And merely kissed
the back of her hand.
Then like shadows he vanished, with a laugh and a smile
Leaving Kertigen and Hodierna bemused for a while
And when night's cloak is drawn down by Damaris' fist
Hodierna lifts her hand
gazing on it
and smiles....
As if it were kissed.
The song closes.
