everild

General:
Everild - the wild lord of warriors, amazons, barbarians, berserkers and those who die in battle, he is attended by several equally wild youths and maidens who are the cream of the fighting crop. From time to time, he sends them down to Elanthia to aid in battle a warrior or army that he favors. If a warrior has served him exceptionally well, he will request them to join him as one of his attendants. If he sees a warrior given an improper burial, he will send one of his attendants down to see that the subject of Everild's attentions is given proper homage. Emblem is the wild boar.

Kuniyo - gentler than Everild, Kuniyo still retains a deep wildness within him, and does not like to wander far from the sound of battle. However, he also enjoys the wilderness, and is therefore a favorite of rangers; especially the rangers who use their sword on a frequent basis. Kuniyo is served by several noble youths and maidens who he may send out to help train a promising young warrior. Kuniyo is stubborn and vicious in battle. Emblem is the wolverine.

Trothfang - Wild and untamed, Trothfang's bloody wars have killed thousands. He delights in torture and slow, messy deaths (his favorite weapon is the barb-tipped spear), and thrives on drinking the fresh blood of those who have fallen. If he truly hates someone, he will devour their flesh in front of them as they die, and then rip their heart out and eat it with much relish. A god of cannibalism, his servants are an entourage of the world's foulest and most savage killers, and those who dare challenge Trothfang are often faced with slow dismemberment and left to bleed to death. Trothfang's parties are often quite chaotic, involving much wine and debauchery and still more destruction; the results of his parties usually involve several dead. Trothfang has no honor in combat; for him, anything goes (this is why many suspect he is the inventor of the technique of two-handed beer mug brawling). He also is the god of primitive life and despises civilization; he loves to see cities fall, and will dance over the bones of a ruined city with much glee. Centaurs worship Trothfang, delighting in his cruelty and taking on the effects of an untamed life. Emblem is the wild centaur.

Altars:
  • Siergelde Ruins:
look stat -- The stern visage of Everild, god of warriors and all who die in battle, stares down upon you from this mighty statue. In one hand he holds a massive claidmore in an upright position, while in the other he holds a shield emblazoned with a wild boar rearing on its haunches. A longbow and quiver rest at his feet, and upon the longbow is written "Honor In Battle."

  • Everild, Basalt Altar, Steel Claw Clan
      [Steelclaw Clan, Chapel]
Leaded glass windows fill the eastern wall, allowing the first light of day to illuminate the intricate mosaic that covers the chapel floor from wall to wall. At each of the other three cardinal points an altar stands - the southern one formed of living wood, the northern of a roughly hewn slab of basalt and the western carved from bone. Dozens of candles, guttering nubs and brightly burning pillars, adorn each altar yet the surfaces and facings are clean, without wax drip or scorch mark.
      Obvious exits: out.

You glance at a tiled mosaic.
The glazed tiles swim before your eyes, forcing you to close them against a wave of vertigo and when you open them again, the leering visage of a man is peering out at you. Traced in the colors of battle and blood, the man kneels over a crumpled form with his arms raised towards the skies and dangling from his fist is a severed head.

look mosaic - As you stare at the intricately placed tiles, the earth-toned pieces suddenly seem to blend into a pattern and a stern-faced young man stares out at you from the mosaic, eyes the color of new leaves. Slim and arrow-straight, the man is depicted with compound bow notched and drawn and, while stoic of expression, there's a glint of humor to the to the curve of his lips.

look mosaic - The tiles swell, filling your field of vision and you can make out the image of a slim older man dressed in shining plate, his visor raised, gaze focused on some unseen horizon. Surrounding him, some in armor unseen for generations, stand men and women in full battle regalia, their bodies blurred and unsubstantial. In one hand, the man in plate holds a battle standard emblazoned with a boar upon a field of scarlet, while the other hand is stretched foward as if in invitation.

look mosaic - Patterns and colors swirl in a rich soup of tiny glazed tiles. You stare at the mosaic, one moment seeing chaos and the next moment almost able to grasp the image that the artist has placed so tantalizingly close.

look mosaic - The intricate pattern of the glazed tiles captures your gaze. Unable to look away, you find yourself falling into a bottomless depth, spinning ever downward. With an extreme effort, you manage to tear your gaze away as you feel your knees buckle and realize you are still safe in the chapel.
        Roundtime: 10

You glance at a basalt altar.
Raven dark and ponderous, the slab forming the top of the altar is rough and uneven as if just yanked from the womb of the earth, though, in sharp contrast, the facing has been smoothed to a lustrous sheen. Chiseled into the basalt is the image of a boar in full charge, sharp tusks curving until they almost meet over his snout.

  • Everild's Altar, Crossings Temple

  • Everild's Temple, Ratha 3rd Tier
      [Everild's Temple, Outside]
A simple building is designated as the temple to Everild by the threshold stone at the entrance. Two carvings stand guard at the doorway, one of a centaur, the other of a wolverine.
      Obvious paths: south.

The stone is set into the floor at the entrance to the temple.
There appears to be something written on it.
      The threshold stone reads:
Built to the mighty Everild in all his aspects by the reverent and honored Dne Family.

look carving - The wolverine stares straight ahead, carved in a rigid pose into the stone posts of the doorway.

look other carving - The centaur stares straight ahead, carved in a rigid pose into the stone posts of the doorway.

      [Everild's Temple, Inside the Cave]
The small cave provides a rustic setting for the boar statue, which is made of cold bronze. Although poised as if sleeping, its body is tense and a single open eye appears to watch every movement. You also see a rough stone altar.
      Obvious exits: out.

look statue - The bronze boar is polished to a high gleam. The open eye is a large, faceted topaz.

  • Kuniyo, Temple of Light, Shard
[Temple of Light, Alcove of Kuniyo]
Tapestries depicting lush jungles filled with stalking beasts adorn the walls of the chapel. Brass planters mounted near the ceiling send cascades of creeping vines towards the floor, and rough woven rush mats and potted palms surrounding a bamboo altar complete the miniature rainforest. Several small rattan stools dot the room for those who wish to remain to commune with their god. You also see a carved ironwood arch.
      Obvious exits: none.

The arch is decorated with carvings of crossed longswords alternating with a variety of shields.

  • Kuniyo Altar, Steppes near Horse Clan
      [Gilen Otso Steppes, Prairie Grove]
A gentle breeze whispers through this small space, lightly ruffling the tendrils of the thick emerald green moss that covers the ground like a rich velvet cloak. The canopy of leaves close in protectively above, allowing only a small patch of night sky to be visible. Emerging from the shadows, a masterfully carved totem in the image of an antelope guards a fine-grained ash altar from any peril the darkness may bring. You also see a path.

look altar - The grain of the wood forms the faint image of a snarling wolverine, barely visible against the pale surface.

  • Kuniyo, Living Wood Altar, Steel Claw Clan
      [Steelclaw Clan, Chapel]
You glance at a living wood altar.
Linden, ash, oak, yew...all are present and more. Every known wood seems to have contributed a branch or a twig to the weaving and each is green and fresh as if cut only hours previously. As the glimmering light cast by the candles falls upon the various woods, dark and light, the powerful visage of a wolverine can be glimpsed.

  • Kuniyo's Altar, El's Bain/Lang

      [Forest, Path's End]
The trees round out the path, ending it with a thick stand of tender maple, spinebrush, and aspen. Bowing silently in homage to the small altar set up at the spot where the path terminates, the trees nod in a gentle breeze, reaffirming their faith to the entity that guards and protects them from harm.

look altar -- Carved of natural stone, the altar is engraved with a fierce wolverine snarling angrily at a small herd of centaurs. A relief of the face of Kuniyo has been inlaid into the top surface of the altar, his eyes staring warmly up at the trees and the skies that surround him.

  • Trothfang, Temple of Darkness, Shard
      [Temple of Darkness, Trothfang's Alcove]
This shrine is completely bare of any form of ornament or decoration. Not even a statue graces the alcove, the only permanent fixture being a brass brazier on a tripod in the center. The scent of burning flesh and the faint tang of copper hangs in the air, the subtle taste of the god of pain.
      Obvious exits: south.

A bowl of gleaming bronze coated with soot on the inside, the brazier is used for burning fleshy sacrifices to Trothfang. The tripod it rests on is pure steel, and the whole looks very hot indeed, sending up heatwaves into the air.

In the brass brazier you see some burning coals.

  • Wyvern Mountain, Cavern
Swords and armor lie piled haphazardly on racks in this room, surrounding a statue of a wild-haired warrior attended by several youths and maidens. A feral smile lights the statue's face as it seems to gaze at those who pass through the cavern. A stone boar snuffles at the feet of the warrior, the carved bristles and fangs sharply detailed. You also see a white arch and a black arch.
      Obvious exits: none.

look statue -- Fierce young men and women of all races attend the god Everild, the wild lord of warriors, amazons, barbarians and all who die in battle.

      A white arch reads:
May Kuniyo guide my steps in the wilderness and my blade in the midst of battle.
Your vision blurs as you pass through the arch, and you see...
A wolverine snarls in the wilderness, as a leather-clad man with a willow longbow glances up at you. He nods briefly, bidding you to pass on, before returning his attention to an unseen prey.

      A black arch reads:
Praise be given to Trothfang, Lord of combat. May our city be spared his hatred, and my bones never grace his table.
Your vision blurs as you pass through the arch, and you see...
A wild eyed man gazes at you amidst the ruins of a city, blood dripping from the corner of his mouth. Implements of torture lie scattered about him, and shrieks of pain fill the air. He nods to a centaur which stands behind him, and the creature begins to gallop toward you. With a shudder of fear, you pass on through the arch.

Misenseor Abbey, High Altar Chamber Columns
an iron Trothfang etching (sold in Temple of Darkness in Shard) will have the same look as this column
You tap the Trothfang column. - Crudely chiseled into the highly polished surface is a surrealistic scene. Blazing high into the night sky, a bonfire sets the stage for a ritual dance. Figures clothed in animal skins, crazily waving swords and spears about their heads, circle the fire in reckless abandon. Partially hidden in the shadows are several pyramids of small skulls -- too large for animals, too delicate for adults, they could only be the skulls of children.

Crossings Cleric Guild Monk: A leather-clad barbarian woman approaches the guildhall, the monk stopping her short. After a few moments of quiet chatter, he allows her passage following a short benediction, "May Trothfang's hunger seethe within your blade."

      prayer
You see: You raise your fist and say, "Everild, may my strength be unwavering against my foe."
Others see: Mellisandre raises her fist to the heavens and says, "Everild, may my strength be unwavering against my foe."

      Constellations:

The Wolverine, symbol of Kuniyo, is formed by a series of sixteen stars high in the eastern Spring skies.

The Boar is a tight group of thirteen stars which form the image of a charging, long-tusked boar.

        centaur - ?

      Steelclaw Clan, Barbarian GuildMistress's Chair
look chair -- Giant in proportion, the chair could easily fit a family of halflings on its seat. A carved boar's head stares out from each arm and the chair back is shaped into the figure of a rearing wolverine, its gaping jaws peering out over the head of T'Kiel.

      [Crossing Temple, Tower Tunnels]

A penetrating chill shrouds this part of the tunnels in a dreary gloom. Bronze sconces line the corridor walls, and sputtering torches generate a feeble yellowish glow that does little to dispel the cold. Cobwebs, covered with dust, drape the passage walls and hang listlessly from the ceiling. You also see a sloping passage.

Expertly forged from the finest of bronze, the torch sconce has been carved into the image of a centaur. The intricate carving brings out the strong musculature and manlike features of this fabled animal, delivering a lifelike quality to the metal.

      [Crossing Temple, Tower Tunnels]
A section of the tunnel wall has collapsed, causing large pieces of riverstone and mortar to scatter about the floor. A lone torch sconce stands in silent watch over this area, its partner lying crushed beneath the broken tunnel wall. The desiccated remains of a small animal lie near the tumbled stone, its wizened form clad in a shroud of thick, grey dust. You also see a dark crevice.

The bronze of the torch sconce has been fashioned in the shape of a rampaging boar, head held high and mouth open as if bellowing in rage. The large tusks of the boar serve as supports to hold the torch in place. A duplicate of this sconce lies crushed beneath a section of broken tunnel wall.

      [Crossing Escape Tunnels, Kuniyo's Egress]
A massive boulder of pale grey granite - probably too difficult for the tunnelers to remove - has been left in the center of the passageway, with just enough space on either side to slip past. Chopped into the surface of the rock, in bold and hurried strokes, is the stylized image of a wolverine silhouetted against a full moon.

Ranging from pale grey to night-dark hues, the great boulder holds steadfast in this passage. Roughly carved on the surface is the wolverine of Kuniyo standing against the moon, its stocky form alert and its head raised with ears perked forward as though listening intently.

      [Gymnasium, Entrance]
A statue of Everild stands in the center of the room, with its arms raised to the sky like wings ready for flight. From behind it rolls loud chiming punctuated by staccato drumming. The musky scent of sweat mixed with incense hangs in the air. An archway beyond the sculpture leads deeper into the building. You also see a carved oak door.
