My original goal in life was to become a nurse. Perhaps it was an inherited trait. My father wanted to become
a doctor, but World War II got in the way. So, together we would patch up fallen birds or plant and nurture trees in the backyard
paradise of my childhood home.
It was not a war that led me down another road. It was a marriage. That life blessed me with two beautiful
children, so it was another way to nurture growth. The marriage ended, but the desire to work in the field of medicine always
stayed with me. I continued to believe that somewhere down the road this expression would find its place.
I began a two-year odysessy (1989-91) into medical science when I was selected by my company to study electron
microscopy! My prior knowledge had not included a formal higher-science cirriculum. However, the laboratory personnel were
seeking someone to operate the new transmission electron microscope at their laboratory site. I raised my hand high, and three
months later I found myself slicing rats' livers and hearts into angstrom-sized specimens and preparing them for view at up
to 100,000 X magnification!
I relocated to another town in 1991,so I could not continue in my courses. But in those two years, a greater
knowledge of cellular biology planted the seeds for a new depth of philosophy about how the mind directs its power into our
cells and tissues.
My career in office administration, however, continued. It has given me a great deal of experience in computer
processing, project initiations, and public relations. Interestingly enough, it has now lead me right back to the place I
want to be. It came to my attention that medical transcription would nicely channel my word processing skills, love of language
and words (I journal daily), medical interests, and the desire to assist the community! It seemed so natural to me, I was
amazed I hadn't thought of it before! So, I left the job and went back to school (the perennial student!)
It is vital to health and well-being to believe in your Self. The trick is to concentrate on positive, strengthening
talents while learning to let go of those life areas that just do not work for you. Once it is all sorted out, simplified,
and made clear in the mind, it can lead to much more satisfying life choices.
During the course of the medical transcription/terminology classes, we students were often told that the chances
of getting a job in this field were "slim to none." My fellow classmates seemed to accept this, but my mind would just keep
saying "NOT! If your heart is into it, it will lead you well." Just before finals week, I received a call from a local transcription
service, and I have been doing OFFICIAL medical transcription from my home ever since - which was just what my inner doctor
ordered!
I personally feel that this came without difficulty because I set my intention, after sizing up my inner resources,
desire, and limits, and just said "ok, Universe, let's go!" The REASONS need to be sincere, too, I think. It needs to be heartfelt,
and not because it means you get to stay home, or it means you have more time with family, or it means you won't have a boss
looking over your shoulder - you must LOVE what you are doing, whatever it is. If the intent to simply find what you LOVE
is missing, the rest will not be able to manifest. But most importantly, you must believe in Self.
This work has also expanded my own understanding that health indeed does begin with belief. As I type up the
medical stories, sitting in an objective and remote position, it is becoming clearer and clearer that most of the illness
that befalls the human race began with an emotional blow.
