Our Fearless Leader

Missy was our very capable instructor. In addition to having 8 years in the field and thereby, all the necessary outdoor and hiking knowledge needed to lead us, Missy also knew geological and historical info about the Canyonlands. She shared this knowledge with us while making sure we pushed ourselves every day.

Photo of MissyShe maintained a perfect balance between safety and letting us be independent. And she quickly learned just how to motivate each of us. (With me it was humor. On my worst day, Missy knew if she kept me laughing I would forget my troubles.)

Missy did, however, have the torturous trait of underestimating distance. A "Missy mile" was significantly longer than an actual mile.

Most of all though, Missy was a hoot! She had a great disposition and a fun laugh. She was laid back yet had a sophisticated sense of humor. I feel lucky to have had her on my first (yes, first!) Outward Bound excursion.
