The white object on the relay between
numbers 19 and 21 is a buzzer that goes off when the headlights are on and the key is off.   This is so we don't accidentally leave the lights on.

The white object with the red and black wires to it is a buzzer that goes off when the key is on and the emergency brake is pulled up.   This was installed after we burned up a set of rear brakes and wheel cylinders because the brake was engaged.   When it happened, we thought that the motor seemed a little sluggish, but it still drove OK.   The torque these Subaru motors have is impressive.

The toggle switch on the battery is for the stereo.   Switch between:
stereo on with key-on;
stereo on independent of key (so you don't run your fuel pump for hours with the motor off).

This is a 7000 rpm tach out of a '90 Jetta.   The Vanagon tach only goes to 6000 rpm.   When the Jetta tach is installed it has a small open area at the bottom (it doesn't go down as far as the Vanagon one).   I carefully cut the tach face between the coolant level and fuel level with a pair of tin snips.   I used a black marker to cover the exposed metal, then super glued it on to the Jetta tach face.   The only thing you notice is that it says "VDO" on the top and the bottom.   The tach works great for the Subaru motor with an 8000 rpm redline (we never take it that high).

Just below the tach is one of the two
anti-glare pads we installed under the tach and the speedometer.   Vanagon instrument clusters tend to reflect up and on to the windshield when driving at night.   These pads keep you from getting that reflection.   They lift out easily to clean under and around them, and they don't fly out with the windows open or with fans on.   We sell them for $7.50 pair + $1.50 shipping and handling.   E-mail us for information and/or delivery.
