The Conversion

Installing a high tech, high powered Subaru motor into a
Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia.

1990 Subaru 2.2L from a Legacy, the motor had 109K miles and ran
perfectly.   The motor was purchased with the matching engine wiring
harness, relays, and other assorted pieces recommended in the KEP
instructions.

Motor stripped down to a longblock (block and heads), then everything was checked.   Parts replaced: crank seal front and rear, cam seals, two idler
pulleys, waterpump, spark plugs, spark plug wires, timing belt, alternator and power steering belt, air conditioning belt, oil filter, assorted gaskets and all hoses.

The idler pulley bracket behind the timing belt tensioner had a small stress crack in it so it was welded.   Make sure you check your idler pulleys and replace them if they feel rough when you turn them by hand.   The
timing belt can jump time or break if an idler pulley "drags".
