Specializing in:
As a psychologist I know :
Effective therapy requires three interrelated things –
REFERRAL NETWORK: My long experience in the community provides me with access to many talented colleagues. When your needs can best be met elsewhere, I refer to my colleagues with confidence in my personal knowledge of the work they do.
If medication is needed, I am able to provide my patients with ready access to several psychiatrists with whom I work collaboratively.
PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING: I may recommend or administer diagnostic psychological testing if that information is needed for our work together.
VALUING YOU: You are not a "faceless-number" in my office; you are a person, unique in your individuality.
You will find your person, your confidence and your trust highly valued.
PRIVATE CONFIDENTIAL ATMOSPHERE: At Psychological Services you will enjoy a quiet, private and confidential atmosphere. You will not run into others in busy hallways or waiting rooms. You will speak with the freedom which comes from knowing that I will routinely refuse to give personal information concerning you to any third parties. The private details of your life will stay private. We will discuss the options you have.
ADAPTABLE, ECLECTIC APPROACH
Providing treatment for individuals is my specialty... even in my relationship counseling. Among the nicer things about having acquired my level of experience is that I can bring the most appropriate of the skills I have accumulated to the work I do with any given individual(s). I don't rigidly adhere to any particular technique. I adapt my approach to the person. The treatment is tailored to fit you, not visa versa.
Although I use an eclectic approach. I have found psycho-dynamic theory to be the most comprehensive way of understanding psychological functioning. I am also thoroughly trained in cognitive-behavioral techniques. I do not hesitate to use whatever is the treatment of choice. Hypnosis is also part of the repertoire from which I select the most appropriate treatment for you. I work with people in both long-term and short-term therapy.
I prefer to work with thoughtful people who want to use their resources to create more meaningful lives. Helping others move beyond the pain of anxiety, depression, isolation, phobias and trauma is deeply satisfying to me. It is a great pleasure to work with those who struggle to overcome the internal and external constraints which prevent them from realizing their potential.
COUPLES AND MARRIAGE WORK – Relationship Counseling
When people come to me for relationship therapy, or counseling, I prefer to meet with each party individually before seeing the individuals together, as a couple. I have found that this approach usually works best.
If you are having relationship problems, it isn't necessary to wait until your partner is ready to see a therapist to call for an appointment. If your relationship is in trouble, call for an appointment now. While it is best for both partners to have the skills to nurture a relationship, one person can start the change by learning skills and using them in the relationship.
Many different kinds of relationships and partnerships benefit from counseling. I have done relationship work with people of various ages and both genders who were lovers, siblings, co-workers, friends, housemates, business partners, or marriage partners.
