Amazon Editorial Reviews From Book News, Inc. Presents strategies for implementing automated
control of tooling, a function that is crucial to a manufacturing company's profitability but is often not considered for
automated control. Shows how to evaluate and justify existing and custom systems and provides a detailed guide for implementing
new systems. Also contains a tool numbering plan (ITCS) that can be used for initiating, organizing, and maintaining a tool
control program. Book News, Inc.®, Portland, OR
Basic Tool Crib Control, September 21, 2001
|
Reviewer: Joel McCoy from Chicago, IL USA | If
you want to track tooling on the shop floor and learn the basic required steps to make it a successful endeavor, this book
will give you that information. If you are interested in gimmicks for tool control this is the wrong book to read. It is a
little hard on non-manufacturing types and hints that they could be contributing to some of the tool availability problems
in manufacturing. (Actually, it was those observations that opened my eyes to Mr. Plute's comments.) Overall, the book points
out the obvious about how and why tool tracking is the key to saving money in tooling purchases and the management of tools.
Inventory solutions are a by-product of Mr. Plute's insight. A numbering system for standard hard tooling and consumable tooling
is presented in the back of the book. Some modification of the numbering scheme will let it work for most users.
