A Day in the Life of an Ancient Egyptian Farmer
I awoke at dawn and
made my way to our washroom. My wife was already up. I washed my face and arms.
I dressed in a kilt of course linen. I shaved and walked into our sitting area.
My wife was preparing the food. We ate a small meal of bread and fruit. After
the meal I left the house and went to my job harvesting grains in the fields.
It is long and tiresome work and today I had to take part of the grain to the
temple to pay for the land I had farmed on. I am truly lucky; this year we had
a good harvest. At days end I came home to a meal of bread and beer. I lit a
small oil lamp before lying down. I blew out the oil lamp and went to
sleep.
