Cheating Helps
I'm not always very good at doing CTs (Constructive Things), preferring to piddle around with computers and crafts. However,
I generally have the TV on for background noise.
Most programs have commercials and more commercials. If I really want to feel as if I've accomplished something, I will
do three things during a commercial.
- Emptying wastebaskets and ashtrays.
- Shredding junk mail with my name on it.
- Polishing the bathroom mirror.
- Starting a load of washing. Putting them in the dryer.
- Emptying the dishwasher and putting the stuff away. (This counts as three: glasses, plates, and other.)
Make a Schedule
There are seven days in a week (unless you're in the middle of a computer project). Since the maid hasn't come in for
the last decade or three, I've devised a schedule for cleaning my one-bedroom apartment.
- Monday: Clean bedroom.
- Tuesday: Clean living room.
- Wednesday: Clean kitchen.
- Thursday: Clean bathroom and shower.
- Friday: Vacuum.
- Saturday: Water plants.
- Sunday: Take a break already!
Just so I remember. . .
. . . I have a dry erase board with tasks on it. One side has Monday through Sunday tasks, and the other side has tasks
with dates in the month. (See below.) At the bottom are tasks done less frequently.
If I decide that the bathroom should be done on the day I usually clean the bedroom, I can change it easily and keep
myself on track.
Embellish the Schedule
Just as there are seven days in a week, plus/minus 30 equals one month. Since my dog and I live here alone without a
lot of visitors, certain tasks can be distributed through the month. Examples:
- Wash kitchen and bathroom floors on the 15th and 30th.
- My two windows can be cleaned once a month.
- The glassware on the top of the kitchen cabinets can be thrown in the dishwasher every two months.
