Welcome to my gallery of non-geometric abstract paintings.

Most of my abstracts are improvisational when I lay them out on the masonite. That is, I start to sketch and stop when I feel there is enough there to make a painting from.

I enjoy using very bright pigments in my abstracts.  I also enjoy the visual and textural appeal of glossy and/or pearlescent pigments.  These can be used either alone, or in combination, in the pre-defined color compartments - which are mostly laid out in black paint.

Many people remark that they see a direct connection between my paintings and secular leaded art glass works. I will not deny that I have always admired the jewel tones which imbue many leaded art glass works.

There are a few works present in this gallery which are executed with brushwork techniques in conventional acrylic pigments, but they are in the minority.

My wife and I attempt to develop titles for the many of the works upon completion - seeking to impart or determine a meaning for each work within the context of our daily lives at the time of the completion of the painting. In short, The painting is an improvisation, while the title is a synthesis of what is seen in the image.... That's about as deep as it gets

Hurricane Katrina stunned me and the nation. The sheer size and effect of this storm upon the landscape and people of the gulf coast, it's aftermath of bumbling Federal response, haphazard cabinet-level and chief-executive management was like Rome drowning while management wore blinders... Yeah, I can murder a metaphor and the emperor lacks a wardrobe.

Chaos, catastrophy, uncommon courage from those left behind to wait on aid, and the compassion of those who wouldn't wait while FEMA did aid worker sensitivity training, translated into several paintings found below.
