A Puppy Is All About Potential

March 5, 2004 Catalogue #73

18"H X 24"W

(AVAILABLE)

I Started Painting Realistic Or Representational Works of Art By First Painting My Greyhounds.

This has led to several commissions, and acceptance to multiple juried art shows (this is a good thing!)

This page highlights my efforts to capture the spark of my subjects. I hope that what you find here allows you to appreciate the joy our family companions bring into our daily lives.

My first pet portraits were of my two greyhounds, Janet and Faster. Greyhounds are very expressive of their moods, and so are great subjects to portray.

As I mentioned, Greyhounds are very expressive canines and very intelligent. Our two are really good at dinner, walks, going outside and proper couch etiquette. Both have also collected their Therapy Dog certifications and visit with those in need of some quality dog attention...

You can view additonal greyhound paintings on my second website (I ran out of space here). http://home.earthlink.net/~marks-art2

(AVAILABLE)
I paint these noble hounds from photos. This allows me to capture their attitudes and mannerisms which make  them such delightful companions. In this gallery, you will find a collection of the greyhound portraits which I have completed over the past several years.

These include several commissions and several pieces that have originated from photos kindly sent to me by proud greyhound owners to paint from when I have asked for greyhounds to paint which have different markings than our two red fawns.

I usually create 18 inch x 24 inch paintings, as this allows me utilize the contextual backgrounds and add the details which show the individual spark of each unique hound. Please e-mail me with your inquiries for canine portraits and pricing. I accept a limited number of commissions per year owing to my other artistic obligations.

You can see my work live by attending the annual Greyhounds Reach The Beach gathering in Dewey Beach and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware over each Columbus Day weekend in October. During 2009, I will be exhibiting my work in the Greyhounds in Art Exhibit held in Dewey Beach, DE. My greyhound portraits have been shown in the juried Art Show At The Dog Show exhibitions in Wichita, Kansas - a premier canine art event held in conjunction with a significant American Kennel Club competition.
